Ano Hi Mita Hana no Namae o Bokutachi wa Mada Shiranai. [Series]

Since you usually have trouble deciding for subs, do you know http://www.ji-hi.net/ ?
Although I usually download first episode to compare because I want to listen to what they actually say. And it's safe to say gg takes liberties with what is actually being said. However they usually sub in good English, and takes into account the circumstances and intonation, so they translate what is being conveyed instead of what is actually being said, even if they sometimes simplify it too much and straying from what is actually being said word for word, sentence for sentence. For example, irony could easily disappear this way, but since I understand most of being said I don't really lose that information anyway. I used to like more literal subs before, but I've gone more towards liberal nowadays.
For the same reason I watched Mahou Shoujo Madoka with gg subs. Even with the Morning Rescue commercial :P.
The spoilerish comment maybe is a spoiler, and maybe isn't, it's probably more the analysis/critic of someone who has seen around 650 animes, and always been a fan of the genre/type of anime that Ano Hana represents. Still rated it 9/10, so I still think it's a must see at some point.
For Arrietty I don't know, don't live in the States.

I'd go for UTW in Ano Hana, the crossdressing guy won't ruin the show unless you've seen the backstory too, at least.
and yeah, this isn't as tragedy as i once thought. it's pretty safe.
madoka, this is anything but lighthearted. but it is a must-watch.

UTW did a better job than gg. Incase UTW didn't exist, it would fall back to Doki vs. gg.
