How can someone be a klutz yet be a super athlete and fighter? Am I the only one kind of reminded of Sailor Moon? The hair, too. How much longer will I have to hear that stupid song before she becomes sad and stops singing?
But sure, this is easier than Blood+ No emotions, no thinking, no plot, straight-up cliché and a little blood. Bah.

Guess you never heard of Crouching Moron Hidden Badass. It's quote common in a lot of shows - suprised you're not familiar with it. There's also elements of Obfuscating Stupidity there, as well. This first episode was almost entirely character development - if I were you (or anyone else), I wouldn't be so quick to judge. The AniDB entry states that this is a NEW, ORIGINAL WORK in the Blood franchise, so comparing (or expecting) either Saya (from the movie or the Blood+anime) is just going to be a exercise in frustration on your part. Accept it for what it is; a original work and quit trying to compare it to something it's not even trying to be.

That may happen during the series (and probrably will, given the nature of the Blood franchise), what that song was was characterization done quite subtly. Too subtly, apparently. Isn't the hair gripe kinda petty given this is a new series?

Judging a new story on one episode is kinda childish. So, the first episode wasn't DEEP and EMO enough for you - y'know, to me it's refreshing to see someone who's clearly a badass NOT be emo and all dark. Depressing goes far enough, and I get enough in Rea; Life without having to deal with it in my entertainment, too. ONCE AGAIN, This is a NEW STORY - enjoy it for what it is, and let go of any expectations you had from Blood+. This is NOT a sequel, it's a variation on a theme that's barely begun.

Looks like you've had long discussions with me about anime, johndmes, since you seem to know me so well. /end sarcasm
I am familiar with the concept, since I've watched a fair amount of anime, I just don't hang out on tvtropes much. But I thought that characterisation had gone out of fashion where female main characters in action anime were concerned. I'm old and experienced enough to know whether an anime will be interesting to me or not once I've seen two eps, which I have. And this one doesn't interest me, because the characters are boring and shallow, the animation is vile and there is no plot in sight. I'm really disappointed, since I expected this to be one of the best anime this season, which it isn't.
And that song is hella annoying. Subtle it is not.

Well, all I can really say here was that for me it was a pleasant suprise to have actual characterization. That song she sang on the way to school really clarified for me the dual nature tat they were going for, and the interaction between here and that quiet classmate also helped to show that her Dojikko - like outward personality was just a front - notice how quickly she went badass once she got home. TBH, wsn't expecting all that much of a fight it was refereshing to see that both here and the "ancient one" went at it - the fight was competently choreographed, instead of how a lot of them go - at least in my own opinion. The contrast at the end, with Saya refusing to let her vampire side out at the sight of the blood splattred on her - well done, IMHO.

WEll, that is your choice - I've seen both The Last Vampire and Blood+ - and I'm not going to go into this with precomceptions based on the old series, and not a sequel to Blood+. Up to you what you want to watch - all I was saying is that perhaps you were coming down a bit too hard on it, given it's far more extreme take on Saya's personality. To each their own, though.
And that song IS kinda subtle, if you think about it - brash and annoying are the way all real-life Dojikkos are, and that song is basiclly warning you what's to come in terms of personality, if you hand't figured it out already. Some people need that sledgehammer - otthers would have got it in the opening scene. There's aslo a lot of evidence inthe first sp that a lot of it is feigned - thus the Obfuscating Stupidy link above.
Just downloaded the second ep (Doki's being real slow for some reason) - so can't speak on it at this point.

I'd say Kimi ni Todoke was worse animation wise than this. This is prettier, it is a Clamp thing, eh? KnT was a better story, so far.
Actually I like her singing. It's goofy and sweet, and she sounds very nice.
She didn't seem too terribly clumsy this ep. And the one time, it seemed obligatory.
