Right there:

My problem is that when I see a cinematic, I want to lean back, relax and just see the cinematic. However what I obviously will get with Witcher 2 is a combat that immediately switches to a 5 second long cinematic that will feature a quick time event only to throw me just as suddenly without warning back to combat. That sure is annoying.

There is one thing many game developers learned: players hate losing control of their character. That is why respectable game developers tend to avoid stun locks and other elements where player feels like he is not in control. This is a good example of that feeling. I want to be in control for the entire battle.

Honestly, it seems like the kind of stuff you become adjusted to since you know they're going to happen. Pretty pointless then to have them though. It seems like it's just left click everytime according to that movie. It would be better with a variaty. Still, would be nice to be able to disable them. Doubt that's going to be an option.

Mass Effect also had stuff like that where you'd actually watch a cinematic movie and not knowing if you had to ready your pointing finger on the mouse or not, that stuff was dumb. Especially since you never knew if it was going to appear. Well, maybe at climax endings, but still dumb.

Agreed. Either always (with a few cases forgetting them), a known trigger that will trigger the following QTE or none.

Oh and none of those spam this button super fast to perform this QTE, G(od)oW having those ruined the game until I set up a macro and just held it down for however long they wanted me to spam (still wasn't any fun as a game, perhaps game 2 was better.).

AceHigh:
It's not the problem about how hard they make quick time event, it's about having it. Usually when you see a cinematic, you will take a relaxing look and absorb the characters, dialogues, even the landscape in the background, but most importantly the event in the cinematic. If I know that they have quick time event any second, my eyes will ONLY focus intensely at the single point where the icon that shows a corresponding QTE button will pop up.

It makes me angry that not only do I have to look at cinematics because developers don't have enough skills to convey a story without them, but now they are so insistent that I actually have to watch their crap instead of going to a kitchen to get some snacks, that they put in QTE in order to force me to intensely stare at their attempt of movie making?

To hell with that, original Half Life had an awesome story of conspiracy, sci-fi, betrayal and it managed to convey it to me without a single cinematic.

Sorry for off-topic

I like finding obscure console games, fan-translated and the like, for a PC emulator. Since my laptop computer is not exactly something to write sonnets about.

There are more RPGs then you can shake a stick at. Whatever that means.

I'm on a similiar quest. Might a suggest the original fallout. Or maybe the kotor games
