WTF is wrong with Microsoft?
« on: April 01, 2011, 08:19:50 PM »
omg, i start up my computer, and all of my microsoft office programs as well as paint, look very odd.

Microsoft Office Word 2007:

^It usually does not look like that, and excel, powerpoint, onenote, and paint look like this. What did i do and how do i fix it? I already restarted my computer a few times.

It's more that you have both Chrome and Firefox/VLC and MPC on your quick launch. VLC is horrible, so that just needn't be there. As for your browser, Chrome and Firefox are the top 2 browsers out there, but you only need one.

Mac OS X :)

Seriously though, how about trying to reset it to an earlier point in time and see if that solves it?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/System_Restore will probably help you find it. Remember to read about what it affects before you do a reset though, and don't reset it further than needed. That way you won't lose as much (if anything, it depends on what you've done with your computer lately).

Okay, I think I have a solution. Go to C:\WINDOWS\system32 and delete the dysfunctional hal.dll file, although deleting all of the files might be a better idea - just to be on the safe side. After that, restart and everything should be back to normal.

have you gone to the control panel, clicked on programs and features, right click on your office install and select change, then select repair.

I think to be extra safe, just delete the entire system32 folder, it's bound to work.

This guy is absolutely right, my method could have easily left room for future errors. There will be no possibility of errors if you follow his advice.

he should just go grab dban and put it in a usb with all his important files in it and then boot it his computer. i hear it fixes any problem windows may come up with and even wipes out malware along with it!
