Udon ...
Tatsujin:
This video made me hungry ...
You ever had an Udon? How is it? I never had one. I remember my Japanese friends taken me to a restaurant and they ordered a lot of different things (lots of sushi) and I ended up ordering something like what he has, but only looked like a beef soup. I was broke and unprepared. We went to purchase and install RAM into my friend's laptop. This was like ... 7 years ago. Such a long time ...
Want udon!
kurandoinu:
The Chinese supermarket near me sells ready made ones, and I've attempted to make my own. They tasted fine but looked a little weird as I couldn't cut them evenly.

Bah, can't vote for multiple options XD
Anyway, udon is nice. Think the area around Shinano-omachi was specialized on udon. It's quite a simple dish, but tastes good XD But that again, I'm a noodle/ramen/udon-lover :P
If I had to rank all soup-like noodle dishes, I would say Udon is ranked 4th below ramen (3rd) and above soba (5th).

I make udon quite often, but I prefer soba.
The soup is relatively easy to make for soba compared to udon, just get hot water, soy sauce, cooking sake, "dashi", and a hint of sugar. Add in vegetables as you like, pour over the soba, serve. udon is a bit more complex (eh, not really I guess)
Either way, I personally prefer the taste/texture of soba and it's soup.
Oh, zaru-soba is amazing too, it's the one where you have a small... cup with the soup in, and you grab the soba in chunks and eat it by dipping into the soup. Although I know people who put small amounts of the soba into the soup, leave it to let the taste seep in, then eat it (though I would think that it sort of kills the point of eating zaru-soba)
Gah, retarded post was retarded.

I'm going to make udon tomorrow and have it in the pork stock I was making this week. Basically udon in the soup base you would normally use for ramen. I'll take pictures of the process.
