Portal 2
« on: April 13, 2011, 12:50:00 AM »
It seems appropriate since we're nearing the release date, and there's not an official Portal thread.

I liked Portal, but it's not like I'd kill for the game. A bit too pricy, and when I am not that crazy about it, I think I'll wait for a sale of some sort. J. K. Simmons is going to be awesome though, he did a fine job on those trailers or should I say, "demonstrations"? ;D

Out on the 19th so a little under a week.

A lot cheaper than the 2nd one. Portal originally was $20? Maybe $15... but it got bundled with the Orange Box... Duki actually gave me my copy (Thanks Duki!) but I'll probably pick up the second one after I see some reviews-n-shit. $49.99 for a game that looks like it still uses an 8 year old engine? Will it have the same length as the first game? Will Co-Op get boring because it's the same god damn levels after the first run through? All will be told in time, but if it's worth it, I will totally pick up the game.

I'm expecting Portal 2 to be twice as long as the original portal. Single Player campaign + Co-op campaign. Sounds logical, doesn't it?

Unless they make both ultra short...
Nah, I believe it's gonna be awesome, I already pre-ordered my copy so it's just one more week from now :3

I'm looking forward to Portal 2, but I'll wait for it to drop to around $20 before I buy it.  I've still got a deluge of games from Steam's Xmas sales that I'm working through, so it's not like I'm hurting for something to play.
It took an hour to write; I figured it'd take an hour to read.

Hopefully the second one will be just as epic as the first one.

It's definitely going to be much harder to play, and a lot more rewarding in the end when you finally solve a problem. I like games that forces you to think beyond the box. Though I can easily recall solving stuff in the first game without really knowing how the hell I did it. :D

It saddens me that I can't afford Portal 2 atm...  :'(

Guess I'll have to make do with the other 10 games I still haven't played/finished.

Because I feel like it.

I don't get this... Portal 2 is $45 on Steam... but it's $60 for PS3 (and that other box protractor thingy, hehe)... yet you still get a PC copy of the game if you get the PS3 version. I also heard (from a reliable source of a Gamestop employee, so take with it with a grain of salt) that it will be cross platformed with the PC version meaning you can play Co-Op with your PC pals on the PS3... if true, eat that Xbox Marketplace. :P

Yeah, pc and ps3 can play together, zero doubt. Valve said it themselves. Xbox still has better online generally, though. It will probably be better on Portal 2, too, even if you only can play with other xbox players.

Portal 2 for console costs 70€ (roughly 100 USD) here... So be happy with only $60. Games are so overpriced in France ....

But I can't wait till I get it. Was a big fan of first Portal already. Can't miss this one !

Mainly because European countries charge fuckloads on VAT. UK charges 20%, Ireland 21.5%, dunno about other countries, but in any case, most games in EU regions cost lots more than other regions.

For those curious, the Portal 2 single player campaign will be approx. twice as long as the first game, and (iirc) the co-op will be about the same length.  So technically the game will be x4 longer than the previous title.

As for how excited I am?  Well I am going to do the same thing I did when the first one came out:  Unlock it the instant it comes out and beat it the same day... Without stopping...  And then play it again and again until I can beat it as fast as possible.

If they have leader boards for single player and Co-Op for fastest time, lowest amount of times a portal was made, etc... I just might pick it up. I'm still waiting on the reviews for it though, I want to by sure it's worth the $60 unless I play it once and there isn't any incentive to do it again (different ways to do puzzles).

Not sure it's only VAT's fault, it's 19,6% in France, and while it's 70€ a game in Fr., the same one in UK costs only 57€ (82 USD). I really can't explain why.

Anyway, did anyone read the little comic they made about the game ? It's nicely done.

Well yeah, of course VAT isn't the only culprit. But it certainly does play a part for games in EU/UK areas, especially when you compare prices with US, JP, AU and Asian region games.
