I won't be backing Nintendo this time. I hope they get their shit together for the Wii They
There must a be a reason for tanking things. And all must be in certain balance.
But what that balance is, must depend only on you, nobody else.

Btw... how do you guys actually think the name sounds like?

See 1:15

The name WiiU does sound like that! I lol'ed.

Iwata confirms non-DVD or Blu-ray playback for Wii U. [6.15.2011]

What? WHAT? WHAT?!!?!

Nintendo officially lost me. They are gonna make their own format? Doesn't this really alienate third party developers because now they'll either have to use Nintendo to print their game discs or be boned on making the game? Isn't this a regression in technology? Just WHAT?!

I think we are being rick-rolled by Nintendo... if this is really true... Nintendo... you are retarded. You are not helping your case. You tried to be different with the Wii and it sorta worked, but you never got away from the problem with third party developers. This does not help. That's 3 different formats or size limitations that developers now have to deal with. Usually multiplatform games go with the Xbox 360's standard of 8.5 GBs for their space limitation... but this is retarded.

How big will the format be? What type of laser will be used? Is this actually SMART?
or the concept of using the archaic DVD format is fucking retarded and paying to use bluray is fucking expensive if you plan to sell 20 million consoles, and would prefer not to pay one of your biggest competitors for every unit sold

More rumored Wii U specs surface, hardware similar to Xbox 360.

Quad-core is nice. We don't know what type of RAM is being used and the specifications of the graphic card, either. Well, enjoy the news. I'm hoping this would be at least 250 dollars on its release.

I have a feeling that nintendo will loose next gen.s battle. . .
although Im thinking. . .whats next? you know. . . like nintendo did the huge revolution by switching from classic controls to motion stuff. . .PS and XBox followed a little late but now . . .I just see a graphic comptetition. . .or a specs competition. . .lets see who can put more RAM and a faster vid. processor

Im hoping nintendo does another "revolution" on the gaming industry. . .

Nintendo is focused on gaming. Sony and Microsoft want to be "everything". Nintendo's system shouldn't be a lot of money (hopefully) since they're not including DVD or Blu-ray playbacks. That's what a Console should really be, but I am still grateful for my PS3 being able to play Blu-ray.

If the system is cheap and 3rd parties support the system, then it should make lots of money. We still don't know what Sony or Microsoft have under their sleeves for next generation consoles so I can't comment.

That's the problem.  The Wii U is basically using the exact strategy as the GameCube.  Meet the graphical standard of the gen, sell your console cheaper and focus on the 'core' market.  But third parties have ignored Nintendo for 3 whole gens now.  I could easily see them ignoring the Wii U even if its stronger than the PS3.

Initial signs seem promising.  Major companies have promised to put games like Batman Arkham, Assassins Creed and Dragon Quest X on the system.  But all of these will be out a year earlier on other systems.  Nintendo needs to secure some major third party exclusives near launch to make an impact.

I'm sure Wii U will make a profit.  Mario, Zelda and Pokemon alone will assure that.  But the difference between a marginally successful console and 'winning the market' is third parties.

I could be wrong on this, but I thought the Wii was already higher then PS3 and Xbox360 in units sold?  By quiet a large amount too??  Or are we discussing games sold?  Either way I'm pretty certin the Wii has been very sucessful for Nintendo and has made them a rather large sum of money

yup what tatsu said. . .
The gamecube had superior "potential" for graphs and stuff over the ps2 and xbox. . . but it lost that generation due to the lack of games (overall)

the wii came out without focused on graphics (the nintendo guys even said they werent gonna compete on graphs) yet they "redefined" gaming. . .a little more family oriented and yes the Wii completely left the xbox360 and the ps3 biting its dust in units sold

the Wii U tho. . .since its competing against ps move and kinect. . .the only thing worth mentioning in the race is the graphics/specs  . . .which it seems to be winning so far but TBH with only that it will loose next gens. battle

i read some rumors about the PS4 having 8-cores. . .still Im betting the Wii U will be faster (RISC vs CISC)

PS3 has a single processor, but the processor itself is a beast.

Sony's PlayStation 3 video game console contains the first production application of the Cell processor, clocked at 3.2 GHz and containing seven out of eight operational SPEs, to allow Sony to increase the yield on the processor manufacture. Only six of the seven SPEs are accessible to developers as one is reserved by the OS.

More information. (Head down to Central processing unit and read on from there)

PS3 is like ... what, 5 years old now? I wouldn't be surprised if Wii U's CPU is faster than the PS3. But the downside to Wii U is, that's their next generation console. Sony and Microsoft have yet to announce their systems.

I'm betting the Wii U will have some tricks up its sleeve.  The whole tablet and console linking together is pretty neat, will be fun to see where they take that too.

Ninja star / golf game looked cool.  And the fact you could take the game off the main tv and onto the tablet and continue playing has its pros.

Nintendo has been around for awhile, thinking that they are gonna lose the console next gen war simply do to spec's is kind of abusrd.  Pretty early to start speculating, even though that can be somewhat fun.  Waiting for more information first before i join in.

I have lots of faith in Nintendo's up coming console!

I didnt make myself clear tho. . .I am pretty confident that nintendo will WIN the specs-wise part of the competition. . .just like it did with the Gamecube. . . yet they lost that generation war (gamecube vs ps2 vs xbox)  they won the next one (wii ps3 360) because they did something innovative. . .but if this will just be a "war of the specs" then Im betting nintendo will loose (even if they have the best machine)

Somehow, I think Nintendo's trick might be a combination of the following components.

1. Cloud
2. Multi-functionality (ie: Tablet + console)
3. Expansion pack (if anyone recalls the "upgrade" for the N64 so that perfect dark could be played)

Nintendo to me is a dark horse. It's easy to disregard them, but you still have to keep your eye on them.

If they take the Kinket (or whatever the 360 uses) and do few new things and add cool games to their Wii U then I don't see them failing. They just gotta stay to what they're really doing. PS4 and 720 will probably be superior in specs. IMHO, they should have waited out a little longer. uh ... what's the CEO's name for Sony? Wasn't it Kai? He was right about Wii will last 5 years and Nintendo will have to come out with something new to grab the audience. But that doesn't mean they've lost anything, Nintendo did a pretty good job in terms of sales and making customers happy.

As much as I hope that this will be good I have to keep my expectations reasonable. Not because I don't think Nintendo is good, I love them.

But c'mon, they're standing under a fucking waterfall of money with their "everyone can do this!" ideas. The Kinetic is just unintuitive and it's characters are just creepy, Milo and that Tiger thing.... And PS3's are not something everyone buys, they scare people off with their "we're totally better then 360" stuff.

The Wii hit a niche market by becoming a toy that flashes lots of lights and gives you completions.

I hope it works out though!

I'm gunna leave you anyway.

Nintendo is somewhat like the black eyed peas. They can take seemingly retarded concepts and make them seem amazing. Never know what will happen.
