Characters

Daikichi Kawachi -- Daikichi is a 30 year old single man and the adoptive guardian of Rin. With Rin living in his home, Daikichi quits smoking, cleaned his house, and reluctantly cut back on work hours. Besides his irresponsible life style, Daikichi is a very hard worker and considered the best in his department. He is insecure about his style on raising Rin, always asking his co-workers or Nitani for guidance. Yumi Unita stated some events Daikichi faced when raising Rin were based on her personal experiences. He is voiced by Hiroshi Tsuchida in the anime and portrayed by Kenichi Matsuyama in the live action film.

Rin Kaga -- Rin is a six year old girl and the illegitimate daughter of Daikichi's grandfather, Souichi Kaga (鹿賀宋一 Kaga Souichi?) and manga artist Masako Yoshi (吉井正子 Yoshi Masako?). Masako abandoned her for the sake of her career. She is strongly independent and mature, often dealing with issues on her own. Living with Daikichi, she develops a fondness of cooking for him. She is voiced by Ayu Matsuura in the anime and portrayed by Mana Ashida in the live-action film.

Kouki Nitani -- Kouki is a boy Rin befriended in her daycare. He is an immature brat, but has grown fond of Rin as they are both raised by a single parent. He is voiced by Noa Sakai.

Kouki Nintani's mother --Always referred by her surname Nitani, she is an attractive 30 year old divorced woman. She gives guidance to Daikichi Kawachi on raising Rin. Nitani is voiced by Sayaka Ohara.

First time I hit enter by accident ... -slaps self- Should be done in 5-10 minutes.

Alright, I want to talk about this. The first thing I noticed about the picture is the adult guy and the little girl. It quickly sparked in my mind that this is going to be one fucking awesome series. There are few series that have similar genre to Usagi Drop. One of them is Asatte no Houkou (AniDB) and it is very similar to it with some magical stuff involved. I love shows like this. And it's also done by Production I.G. and we all know how good Production I.G. is.

Going to go and update the Asatte no Houkou thread. It's pretty outdated. Done.

I really liked the first part of the manga, it was a sweet story. I wonder how many eps there will be, the manga is finished (but licensed).

Either until the end of volume 4 or, for a surprise for once, to the end. The problem with the manga is that the official translations are really slow, but the scanlations are not fast either...

I hope it will be something like Aishiteruze Baby, really like that anime, this one sounds a bit similar to it

Let's hope they will stick to few first volumes in this anime. I usually dislike spiking in time like this >_<

Just for you GoGeTa. Updated the first post, new intro picture and specific release date.

Edit -- Found a more suitable description and in-depth to the story! Read below:

The preview that I saw on youtube reminded me of an upbeat movie about getting through family issues. Can't wait to see this.

Slice of Life (for sure), Drama, and yes seems like Family Issues and possibly Coming of Age (I so hope so but doubt it). But hey, the AniDB description (new one) seems pretty interesting, huh? :)

You can. I don't know where they are at but it's not finished yet. And one more thing which I am not completely sure about. There is a Coming of Age session and we're not talking about a mere year or two ... Go back up and look over the Wikipedia Description I posted and read it. I've also added more info on few notable characters so you can get a better sigh of the characters, individually. If you want more stuffs then just read the manga. The anime is also going to first release on July 6th only on Fuji TV's Noitamina and it will then release on all other stations on July 8th.

You can. I don't know where they are at but it's not finished yet.

The first 8 volumes are already scanned, out of 9. The manga is actually finished but the last volume doesnt release until sometime in July so the poeple that have been translating are waiting for scans of that volume to show up to finish the series up.

i love the manga so am really excited for this to come out (and for the manga scans to show up...but that is for another thread).

Usagi and Mizu Sahara's "My Girl" are my two favorites in the "older single guy ends up taking care of young daughter figure" type of stories.

maybe showing my age...maybe...

I'm expecting this to fail and be boring as hell. I just can't see it as an series.

Let's hope they prove me wrong!  :D

Because we can!
