Vienna was the Developers Name for it.
They said directly that the final Version will not be named like that.

Name it by kernel version. NT 6.1
All you have to do is study it out. Just study it out.

With Windows 8.1, are things much better than before? Start button back? I may purchase a legal copy for Windows 8.

It just put's you back on the metro start screen. Nothing's much different. Doesn't seem to be worth it.

Not really no...there's a bunch of changes though they're not immediately apparent.

With a Start Menu program it feels pretty much like a faster booting Windows 7. Wasn't a bad deal when it was like $15, anyway.

To be honest I think the tile view would have worked if it were designed around a start menu size and focused on categories, rather than take over the screen every time you want to open a new app. The emphasis on tablet-like scrolling really reduces it's efficiency.

its not only the boot up, but the kernel execution and the kernel itself is so clean(minus bugs) its making me think anything previously made were junk.

So when is the thing officially releasing? I've only used the preview yet.

Same as 7, more or less. Probably need to reinstall AppLocale (I use the Hongfire one.)

There is an issue where Asian character sets don't load up properly (they appear as squares.) Still seems to be a problem, but try this if it occurs. Just involves keeping a text file on the desktop so it loads the character sets up.

I have Japanese as my locale. I don't have AppLocale installed so I never encountered any problems with Windows 7. Was wondering if W8 has issues or sort of since it's a different OS. Thanks thou'.

It's pretty much 7. Haven't had anything not run that 7 could.

The more I use my wife's laptop, the more I hate Windows 8. First, they did away with the start button completely. Now you can only access the start menu by hitting the Windows key. Not a big deal, but takes some getting used to. Unfortunately, it gets worse...

The start menu no longer puts your executable files into a concise lists organized into folders. Now, when you access the start menu, a whole other freakin' desktop pops up with all your executable files icons! You have to scroll left and right to see them all, and you cannot open the start menu and view your actual desktop at the same time. And, it gets worse...

Not all the computers executable files are on the new start desktop. If you should need to access the Control Panel for any reason, you'll have to right click somewhere to the side on the start desktop, and click the "All Apps" button, which brings you to a third desktop with all your computer's executable files shown with even smaller icons!

Also, kiss your favorite programs compatibility goodbye. All I want to do is create a simple macro, and I've yet to find a single macro create tool that works with Windows 8. I'm about the bang my head against the desk out of frustration.
