8 or 8.1? theres a difference, 8.1's bootspeed is even faster btw, lol.
So I can get something less than 2 seconds now? I doubt it!

Which updates should I avoid that validates the copy of Windows 8 version and any "Black Hole" updates?

You gotta Google that kind of stuff, Tatsu.
But you should be able to notice weird descriptions for those updates.

Yea no one encountered jack shit. So I just updated for the hell of it and turned off updates all together. Windows 8 with Classic Shells is a freaking awesome experience. Windows 8 > Windows 7.

Maybe no one encountered anything, because no one wants to pirate it.

It cost me $15 to pick up a copy, so it seemed kinda silly to bother.

Ended already. I got my copy in like February I think.

You supposedly had to have bought a new computer within a certain time frame (which to be fair, I had), but other than telling them I had there wasn't anything they'd know that would have confirmed I actually did buy a recent PC. Moreover, if I recall it was working on pirated Win7 copies. They were pretty desperate to get it out earlier in the year.

I don't mind it, as long as I have Start8.

Does Classic Shell restore Aero? I explored the Classic Shell site but couldn't find any info on that. I really like Aero, to the point where if I can't get it on 8 when I get a new laptop, I'll wipe it for 7, even if 8 has all kinds of optimizations and improvements and such.

You'll have to use Aero Glass for Windows 8.

You can also try some of the shell themes floating around for Windows 8.

I didn't know Microsoft removed Aero until recently. Apparently they did it to reduce power consumption and chose not to include it for desktops. I guess it is to be expected since Wintel is pushing mobile computing to the exclusion of everything else.

I still have yet to see a skin mimic Aero perfectly, or at least reasonably well. If the screenshot in the link you provided is representative of how it looks, it doesn't do a very good job. All it really does is make the title bar translucent and add some glow to the text in it. Aero in 7 is a bit more involved than that.

Yeah. I guess you're going have to skip Windows 8. I'm pretty sure Microsoft actually removed the Aero code instead of simply burying it. Sorry I can't be of more help for this issue. Maybe 8.2 will return this feature if people continue to make a stink about it.

How's windows 8 update? On my desktop it's ok but I'm not sure if it's taking too much space for the updates. Win7 is horrible on my laptop, took 8GB for updates plus it slows down. So I format it then deep freeze, no more updates. A bit faster now, should I leave it like that?

Clean out the case.
Turn off programs/services you don't need from starting up automatically/at start-up.
Defrag.
Run a (deep) virus scan.
???
Profit?

It could also be your RAM.
One of my, tech challenged, friends tried running Win7 on 3GB of RAM.
-I know it SAYS you only need 1 (or 2) but I've never seen a machine run it properly without at least 3GB.
It...didn't work so well.

Confirmed: 3GB is sufficient.
