Hawken
« on: April 20, 2011, 03:13:03 AM »
You are all old enough to remember MechWarriors, right? (maybe not all of you, but I know some people on this forum knows what I'm talking about).

Why the hell has no one made a good mecha game in the past 4+ years? As my personal opinion (and stated multiple times on the forums), Chromehounds was the last great mecha game that I enjoyed. Before that, it was MechWarrior 4. How come no one is making mecha games anymore yet I think we are due for a Triple AAA title mecha game already. I havn't heard of any mecha game other than that new Mech Warriors game, so what gives?

I'll tell you what, everyone likes indie games, right? (Minecraft to name one example)

Well, what if I told you that there is an indie game that will be a mecha game that looks like this will be come out:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Is9nujmgPBo

Like it says in the video, that's only after 9 months of development. Here is also an interview with two of the developers. I'm not trying to advertise the game, but I really want to reach out to other mecha gaming fans and discuss one thing... what would be cool or what would make a great mecha game? I'm going to try and show enough support for this game to be a full release and hopefully have some kick ass mecha multiplayer action. :P

PS before you ask... Marauder II is what I used in MechWarriors.

Watched & enjoyed the video. Don't know if I'll enjoy playing it, as doesn't seem to have the "simulation" vibe that I usually get from playing any of the MechWarrior series. I'll put this game under my watch list & see how it turns out.

I agree, it doesn't give off a simulation vibe as much as mechwarriors or chromehounds, but there hasn't been a great mech game in years and it's kinda time to get one which is this title!

I also found this picture:

Judging by how big the mechs are, they are similar to size of what the mechs were in Killzone. I would of loved to have MechWarriors sized mechs where they were likes 12 to 20 stories high... but mechs the size of a half a street make it useful to have jet packs which I think will make for fun while defending OR advancing.

For those who have been living inside a cave & have no idea what is going on with the MechWarrior series, here's a video of MW5.
Anyone who likes the MW series would know about this.

For those who know about MW5 but doesn't have a clue as to what is keeping the developer from finishing the game, here's the reason.

Bottom-line, screw Harmony Gold! The new MechWarrior looks freaking awesome & damn, that 1 mean looking Atlas.

For me, I won't have a computer to handle that game nor do I have an Xbox 360 either (unless it comes to PS3 which I doubt). True, the game looks awesome, and if it really stands up as a great multiplayer mech game, I will be forced to get a 360 or a good gaming computer... This game though, is definitely on my list and Indie games have more quality packed into them than 70% of the big name developers out there with less content.

I don't think there is any real way to beat what mechwarrior was, it would be simpler to just copy paste and renew graphics on it. That was the only real mech game I can accept.

The rebirth of Mech games as we know it!

New Hawken trailer

The game is confirmed as a downloadable game for PC, Xbox 360, and PS3. I'm gonna go hardcore and say that I will get this for PC because I KNOW there will be custom maps for it (hopefully the give the tool for it as well, cause I would like to make some maps). By the time this game is released, I will definitely have my new computer. I'm just waiting for either SWTOR to come out OR the new ATI 7xxx series cards to come out.

this game looks rather cool and as someone who loves mechs but hated most of the mech warrior games due to over engineering in a game (making me use way to many buttons when i was like 13 f that)  this looks like it will be more along the lines of FPS with mechs

I can't wait to get this. I've always liked action mech games more than tactical ones, but most of them recently kinda suck.

Being downloadable, we are getting 8 maps of varying sizes at launch... and the game will probably be $20. Eat that CoD!

Before I say anything, let me make myself clear: I am a fan of Mechwarrior games and any other games that have bipedal weapon platforms as it seems to be a sci fi culture from the west. I am not touching any Japanese Mecha games. However I believe that people are not using the word mecha to indicate the jap. version of this sci fi and let's keep it this way.

TMR(Space)N, to one of your questions: a new Mechwarrior game is made for Xbox and PC called "Mechwarrior reboot". The reboot part indicates going back to the timeline of Mechwarrior 1 game, so I guess not so many awesome clan mechs to play with. Also they are supposed to be done with the game already but ran into some legal trouble with another company that claims that their mechs look to much like their own ones.

Yeah, I am waiting for a new Mechwarrior game, because although this indie game looks nice, it looks like a 15 ton mech at best, I want a proper 100 ton assault mech that can tower over buildings and PPCs and LRMs, not just a large caliber machine gun.

Anyway take a look at this mod for Crysis: Living Legends
For one thing, Tiff is not on any level what I would call a typical American.  She's not what I would consider a typical person.  I don't know any other genius geneticist anime-fan martial artist marksman model-level beauties, do you?

You mean this legal trouble? If the game was really done, that mech would be out of the game and a new one put in... but it's been 2 years since then and NO NEW NEWS has come out about the game. I loved playing Mechwarriors 4, but gosh darn it, why has there been no new mech games whatsoever? I'm thinking that Mechwarrior 5 (or the reboot, unless it's two different projects) is dead. Hawken seems like the only thing in sight for mech fans. I agree, the mechs look very small in comparison to Mechwarriors' (which I prefer the 100 ton vs 15 ton) hulking monsters of mechs.

It's downloadable, with some nice maps, it's mech combat, and I can probably mod it? I'll take what I can get.

BTW: Ace, you didn't like Chromehounds? That was big big mechs, or did you not like that there were quad-pedal/hover mechs as well in the game?

the game looks pretty cool but I would prefer third person view

There is an option to do third person. There are videos on youtube of the standard combat.

That game is apparently Xbox exclusive and I am not going to play a game so simplified that you can use a console pad to control a giant mech.

My credo is: Consoles are for faggots.

EDIT: seriously, check out this game play video. about time to install Crysis and that mod :)
