BTW: Ace, you didn't like Chromehounds? That was big big mechs, or did you not like that there were quad-pedal/hover mechs as well in the game?

That game is apparently Xbox exclusive and I am not going to play a game so simplified that you can use a console pad to control a giant mech.

My credo is: Consoles are for faggots.

EDIT: seriously, check out this game play video. about time to install Crysis and that mod :)

When I get a new computer, THAT'LL be the first thing I install. I wonder how many mechs they have from Mechwarrior? That does look like made fun. And about the console thingy, weapons switching was just the press of a button, fire missiles, then back to your high ROF weapons. Everything else is "NOT" simplified. :P

What sort of controls do you use on PC to control a giant mech? isnt it pretty much the same as FPS controls?

as for chromehounds...it's much more realistic than mechassault or armored core (never played mechwarrior) but its probably the slowest most boring depiction of giant battle mechs that shoot giant guns and launch missiles etc, that I've ever seen...I mean if you're going to make a game based on technology that doesnt exist then why bother limiting it to quasi-realistic standards?

wtb more mech games...

simple answer: no, pretty much every key on the keyboard has a function in this game, they even used F keys
For one thing, Tiff is not on any level what I would call a typical American.  She's not what I would consider a typical person.  I don't know any other genius geneticist anime-fan martial artist marksman model-level beauties, do you?

Because their is two different trains of thought on this subject. Some people like me and Ace like slow moving, HUGE mechs. For example, Gundam 8th MS Team is a good example of the type of mechs we like. Mechwarrior has fast moving mechs, but there are also the bigger and heavier mechs (that could obviously withstand more damage). We just don't like mechs that can go DBZ on the "mass production" suits and take out 20 of them with one shot.... why base a game on something that is completely unrealistic? (COUGHGUNDAMXCOUGH)

What I really don't want in a mech game is the typical japanese style mech with human proportionate body profile and hands with which it can hold huge weapons that have same ergonomics as human firearms, but just bigger. I am talking about mecha from anime like evangelion, rahxephon or god forbid the rollerskating Code Geass mechs.

I want mech to look like they are designed for practicality, not aesthetics. This is probably why I never liked Atlas mech, it looks too much like a humanoid to me. Also I think it is important to have somewhat realistic movement on mechs, so as I mentioned before, no damned rollerskating mechs aka code geass.

That is why it is so hard to replace the old Mech Warrior from 1998 IIRC

The awesome was because the weapons were literally part of the mech itself, with only rockets being more like SAM or something like that. the change in Mech construction in games generally came form the idea that mechs should be more Human shaped, and I think that idea came exactly from Japan.

And that is why I generally dislike the mechs in anime and games, it's just Minecraft Humanoids with guns :P

I never got that either... why rollerskates? At the beginning, I was like "These Nightmares look like they are gonna go into a Grease rotation... mech style!"

Plus, Ace... I peg you for a Vulture fan, amiright? Or were you all about the Supernova?

Nothin wrong with giant slow moving mechs, bigger=slower...but there should be a sense of destructive power, and chromehounds lacked that, muliplayer might be different (I started playing long after everyone quit the game online) but in the entire game I never once was like "wow this mech is cool" it was always "ffs why am I even playing? I kill badguys in 2 shots that don't know how to dodge and I can take thousands of hits and barely be damaged"

Realism can be nice, but a mech game that is about as exciting as a flight simulator is well...not worth playing imo
/shrug, maybe I'll pick up some PC titles, anything out there besides mechwarrior worth playing?

Not really, Most games are dumbed down for console players since a long time ago, that is why I prefer RPG's and RTS games now, you can't really make it any dumber than what is the minimum required of a player in an RPG/RTS game :P
RPG= Farm xp
RTS= learn to think.

I like Clan mechs, my favourites are Cauldron Born, Daishi, Linebacker, Puma, Mad Cat and yes the Supernova. I like how they all have reverse jointed legs which just seems to be more practical and stable in some way to me. The all have mean look as well and you see from the first glance that these are the perfect machines of war.

So yeah, you guessed pretty much right.
