Maid/Cosplay Cafe's question ... out of pure curiosity ...
« on: April 22, 2011, 09:37:13 AM »
so, out of pure curiosity, are there any in your city ?

I did a check, and none in mine, I might think of opening one myself if I had the money for it :)

There's like 1 (one) manga cafe in all of India, forget about maid cafes.
You should totally open up a chain of maid cafes when you have the money for it ;)

mm!
I just might, cuz the idea is interesting, unlike many people think about it, it would certainly be interesting, and not only otaku's would come by, a Maid cafe or cosplay cafe would be fairly interesting, a place you could relax and just enjoy yourself, though I need you guys to report first, it's very important, cuz I just might apply for funding if I had enough information :)

I was walking around in my city (Perth, Australia) and walked by a café with an Asian (presumably Japanese) girl in a French maid outfit standing out the front, I didn't look any more into it as me and my mates were trying to find an Army Surplus Store.

In Sydney Australia, there are no maid cafes, except when Anime Conventions like SMASH! or Supanova etc. come.

I would be thankful if you would check on it in your free time then Dale08, but don't force yourself if you do not want to, I'm pretty serious about the business type actually, I know there are a lot of them in Tokyo and other major cities in Japan, seeing as my money income isn't that good, and i'm getting older, starting up a business isn't such a bad idea, and if it would actually bring in customers, and i'm fairly sure it would, if not fans than cosplay cafe style would certainly bring a lot of fun to customers, especially with some events going on.

I'm actually looking at charts and documents for funding appliance, I'm gonna have to think carefully about localization and security as well, as cute the girls would be, I would rather give them the feeling of being safe in such a work. I do plan on hiring guys as well though as waiters and security should be the priority in this kind of shop.

I know there's a group around London that gets together for a convention down here (so twice a year, maybe three times) but as far as the UK goes I think thats about it.

I know there is at least 1 in London. Southrop brags over facebook all the time. Or maybe its just my stalking which events he is attending. >_>

None here in Brisbane that I know of unless you go to a con. Even then they are rather poor. If a professional one were to pop up I would be delighted. :P

A quick google reveals there's no such thing here in the netherlands except for what seems to be possibly a once a year thing at a convention

Hmm, If anywhere in Australia, I'd suspect Brisbane to be the place to harbour a Maid Café. Most likely place would be in Surfers Paradise of which I have been to twice and have no recollection of seeing one.

Well I am yet to do a full check and sweep of the area so I am not sure but from what I have searched around the city and coast I have not seen too much.

In Canada... well, one never really knows because such things are usually local information unless it's near Toronto.
That's how our crappy national media works.

There was apparently one set up in Scarborough in 2006, but it failed and died in 2007.

So to really find out, you really have to query individual cities, which is a royal pain.

Ah, here's one in Surrey, B.C. (I thought there might be something near Vancouver).  The Magnetic Cafe.
So, yup, there are a few around.  You just have to know where to find them in order to find them.

En, I get the feeling that you actually did search for it some time ago :)

@surdumil
that probably was the reason why it failed, a cafe like this should be known, but hard to find, finally finding the place and enjoying your time there should be a reward for your trouble, of curse the cafe would die earlier if it was hidden too hard, so it should be pretty easy to find as well, very likely the area should be mostly attended by younger people, around 15-18, than adults, who likely have both no interest in such things as they are far too busy not being broke, and there are also those people that would loathe a place like this and try to have it removed, best place would be the darker back of a trading square, or something, with a small sign someplace indicating the hints where to look, I can see from many anime shows that places like this are popular but people that have no idea why or what it actually is for, would simply detest it's neighborhood and try to kill it.

Edit:
we live in the age of internet, so advertisement via internet isn't such a bad choice as well.

I tried looking for one near Philadelphia to no avail. I think that would be a very good investment idea... find out the city that has the most amount of anime nerds and open that Maid Latte cafe right in the middle... and hire a Misa-chan as well... XD

I don't need anime nerds for it actually, just maid cafe would be good enough to attract normal customers that want to experience some luxury in a form of a maid that brings you coffee or anything else, you wouldn't know how awesome of a feeling that is if you never been to such place before :)
I have when I was in Japan
I just thought how a great business opportunity this is.

IMO the idea of a maid cafe would seem quite foreign to the Western society, specifically to those who aren't aware of Otaku culture. However, the intrigue such a business causes could also be a driving point for it. I'd say the success of a maid cafe is driven heavily by luck, followed by food & service.

I'd say a success of such a thing is more based on how it's handled, and how the workers feel when they work, as I said, in this case, the girls should feel safe, if they do, they work honestly, and customers feel it, if customers feel good, they come back, but the crucial point is advertising the place, that part has to be careful so it doesn't turn out to be nicknamed "perverted cafe" or something of the sort.

Ye Gods!

There is someone else from Perth here!

Anyways, that sounds like it might be 'Miss Mauds', which is a popular cake/pastry shop in Perth, but I could be wrong.

I'll do a little research and see what I come up with.
