Manga works fine on my HTC Desire. No need to zoom, but instead, i view images horizontally and then scroll up/down. It works quite well.

I'd rather see the entire page at once. Seems a shame to view pages in a way they're not designed to be.

^ I found the iphone too small to read manga comfortably on. Too much zooming.

True. But it is better than nothing. Though if you turn it sideways it's actually pretty decent
I have typed these words and you have been forced to read them.  Now you can go cry in the corner if you like :)

Yeah, manga on the iPhone is a no-go from me but I have streamed anime on my phone with Netflix before without any problem.

I was more referring to the resolution with the 4th gen, since the prior ones weren't all that impressive in that department. And true, you can't beat free, sadly I don't get those kind of things for free and have to pick the best ones for my purpose myself. :/

Hmm ... I have a 2nd Gen ... the resolution for me seems fine ... though it would depend on how the manga was scanned.

^ I found the iphone too small to read manga comfortably on. Too much zooming.

I would say it would depend on the app you are using ... I do know there is one app that when you tap the screen it goes from panel to panel so you can read it (it made me get motion sickness).

Like Southrop, I do turn my iTouch the long ways & scroll thru the manga pages ... not much zooming needed (unless it a double page scan).

I use VLC on my iPhone.  Works just great for a long plane ride or a pedicure.

As I got a laptop I don't really like watching or reading on my phone. If I am going to travel more than an hour I take my laptop with me. And the small resolution turned of off mostly anyway, even on bigger phone screens.

I read a lot of manga on my Asus EEE Transformer tablet. it's really nice. If I'm on a bus or train, or passenger in a car, it really passes the time.

Anime, however, not so much. avi files run great, mkv files are a hit and miss. Generally, I don't watch anything on my tablet though.

I'd say:
60% manga/book reading
39% internet browsing
1% anime watching

I do watch anime on my HTC Desire, it's pretty handy for when travelling etc. The poor support for subtitles limits what I can actually watch though, I'm basically limited to hardsubbed anime only, of which I don't have a huge amount since I'm too lazy to reencode it just so I can watch it on my phone. Basically all I do have atm is Lucky Star and Angel Beats.

That said, what I do have works like a dream (using Rockplayer, since the default Android player is useless). It's a great way to pass the time, though the battery dies after 3 or 4 episodes unless I have it plugged in somewhere (luckily most long distance trains seem to have power sockets for charging phones/laptops nowadays. Less good in cars though).

I used to like rockplayer alot because it supported alot of formats. Then I found Dice Player which actually plays 720p h264 mkv files and even lets you choose audio/subtitle tracks. Sorry rockplayer, but I've found a new love ;)

Rockplayer is capable of playing 720p video too, AFAIK. It lags too much to really be watchable on my phone, but my phone's slow, so Dice Player would almost certainly be the same. Does it support typesetting in ASS subs, or does it just treat it all as plain text (like some other players)? If so, it might be worth me getting it, since it does seem pretty nice.

it can read the subs from .ass format but i dont remember if it styles them differently from standard text; dont get me wrong, i loved rockplayer because it worked sometimes while default player supported absolutely nothing lol. However, there are times rockplayer would open an mkv and move like 10fps with no audio while those same videos actually work in dice player XD

Honestly, I used to use rockplayer for mp4, avi and wmv and yxplayer for mkv, and arcMedia for some avi which would have inverted colors on rockplayer... but now i only have to use one player ;)

Edit: oh dice player I hardly knew ye! Looking around I found something called mx videoplayer that fully supports .ass and runs videos much smoother on top of that cuz it has software codecs for arm v7. Looks like I found my new player

Ooh, now that's a nice find, looks like I've found my new player too :D

It's surprising, a few months ago there were basically no decent video players for Android at all, but now there seem to be several.

i already stated that on another topic, well the part that android is now an all around gadget.
try android, a friend of mine has one and it seems to do almost everything, galaxy S2 to be precise.

that is including surfing the net, playing movies, using it as a juke-box, using it as a flashlight, etc.

the only most notable things that his android couldn't do is stay alive for a week without recharging and make him breakfast.

HTC Desire HD + moboplayer from android market = watch anime wherever you are!

Moboplayer only have 1 tiny problem: It understands softsubs, but cant display them as they are in video, you have to choose the font and color from limited list

But it still is more than not able to watch h264 mkv videos AT ALL!

and there is always solution for PSP: PSPVC

they see me rollin', they hatin'..

I have watched some anime on my Galaxy S with mVideoPlayer and it works great. It even plays 720p .mkv (H264) files no problem.
It's great if your on the road and laptop would just be too heavy to take with you (+ my phone has longer battery life than my laptop...)
