PSN is down..

What the shit... is all I have to say.

Literally the day after 3 major online games come out for the PS3 and PSN goes down. They said "Oh it will only be a couple of days at the most!"


It's almost a week now, does anyone know what is going on or did GlaDOS take out PSN cause she doesn't want to cross platform with PC users (totally seeing that happening). So any rumors, news, or funny pictures to describe the situation with PSN?

some hacker group exploited psn and shut down their servers. sony fixed it already but hasnt put psn back online because they're trying to figure out what was exploited in the first place.... at least thats whats being said on the interwebs

Btw, I find it funny when people refer to their PS3 as a superior console because it has a blu ray, when you know that 90% of their movies / video, are just downloaded from the interwebs and not actual blu ray :D (and 9% still DVDs)

you have to admit though (well, you probably won't - but that's really more a problem with you) that it is kinda stupid to come with a xbox360 counter if the poster was sweet-taunting criticizing being bound to one specific (bottleneck) system as used in every console. with console being the word of interest (thus includes the xbox).

i believe it's pretty much relevant - after all you are whining about the shitty PSN being down. i really enjoy imagining the "funny pictures" of PC players happily playing while the PS3 players are sitting in the dark

in that regard the multiple dvds argument is lol-worthy too. on a pc you install a game once, and after that you put one dvd in the drive at most - for most new games you do that once to register your game, and after that the game does not require a cd/dvd anymore - on the not the legal way you never require a hard medium at all.

Bottleneck systems? True, we have one hardware for 5+ years... We have to deal with... oh wait, we DON'T have to deal with upgrading drivers, worrying about viruses, upgrading hardware, worrying about harddrive space, running defrags, installing games, updating games, etc etc. All I have to do for 5 years is pay for a $400 system... and buy any game I want... pop it into console and I'm ready to play a game. Inferior? I don't think so or at least not at my standards... streamlined? Definitely more than a PC.

Oh, you have to install games still? I just pop in a disc and my console eats it like "nom-nom-nom" and plays my game. That's the thing with consoles, I can own the entire library of a console and never have to worry about harddrive space. True, some games require an install, but that's to improve load times or cache files on the internal harddrive. I wouldn't have to worry about filling 180 GBs of space with save files and the one and every third game that requires an install of no more than 1 Gig.

Back on topic, it's a bugger that the PSN is still down, but I don't blame them for wanting to find out HOW it was exploited in the first place so that it can't be done again.

PCs have a big advantage over consoles in terms of graphics, calculations, objects on screen, anything a game can throw at the hardware... that is if you have the proper hardware. Will a $400 computer play a game as well as a $400 console? I don't think so, but that point is moot. PCs have the superiority in hardware, yes... but since when did having great hardware really necessarily mean you could to play great games?

metal gear solid 4 has to install like 4 times in the story, each time is like a 15 minute install, and each install is 4gbs. dont get me wrong, i like my ps3 and i dont want an xbox360 either but its still funny XD

oh and pc is bottlenecked by stuff like directx, the pixel pushing power of modern day graphics cards is so far ahead of consoles. I have a beast pc myself but I dont even use it anymore to play games ; ;

When was the last time a bunch of anon-ops managed to take down the internet? Speaking of hassles about viruses, what about the nice little hack from GeoHots that allows people to freely cheat in COD, unlike a computer virus, Sony really failed to counter that.

Lol, you cannot take down the internet... But to play games online, you need a server to host the games. Servers aren't free and neither is the connection you need is free (or cheap for that matter)... or if it's a server-less hosting game, you are limited to the host's connection. If it's a bad connection, you get disconnected.

And yes, I did mention a PC exclusive game because that was one of better PC exclusive title that was worth getting in the past year or so (next to Civ 5, but I don't fucking mess with those people... I know, I'm one of them... like a tweaker!)

In the end your console is without connection, my PC is and I am enjoying my games on servers that I don't host or pay for, on a broadband connection which is very cheap (really, a monthly fee for DSL is like 2 burgers in Burger King or a litre of Whiskey).

The only assholes that managed to fail as hard as Sony at connection on PC gaming are Ubisoft with their draconian "always stay online to play" DRM. During the release of AC their servers went down for several days. An epic fail was epic. Then again I don't even bother playing the crap that they release.
