I don't get why we need 3D specific TVs... to make a 3D imagine, don't you just need the red and blue sides of the picture adjust out from foreground, mid ground, and background objects? I don't see why a special TV is needed (obviously the glasses are needed).

I believe its a different technology than that. Hence why cinema's had to have new screens fitted, and why the new glasses won't work with the old style 3D.

I would agree, the PS3 still has at least 2 more years in it even though Sony planned to support the PS3 until 2015. Expect a new Playstation 6 months to a year after Nintendo and Microsoft release their new consoles.
And it better be at 300 dollars or less.

I seriously doubt it... the Wii was $300 at release... the PS4 will for sure be a $600 product.

PS4 is twice as powerful as the PS3! We just found a way to duct tape 2 PS3 together and sell it that way. Plus, the platform isn't as hard for developers to learn from the PS3! Isn't that great??????
This is your home now. So take advantage of everything here, except me.

I would suggest waiting until after E3 to buy a PS3 - it's only a few weeks away. I'd be willing to wager either a slight price drop or a new bundle of sorts comes out shortly after E3 (or shortly before).

Is it worth buying another PS3 for folding@home?  I think it has pretty good point earnings.

Alright lets hope for that. My brother who also has a PS3 says that game developers still havent untapped the PS3s true potential so im hoping they will still keep the system for many years to come.
What does that mean? The specs of the PS3 is already ridiculously outdated compared to a high-end PC.

Am interested myself. I've seen it at €200 here in Denmark, €133 would be sweet though gonna take 2 years or so for it to drop that much. I used to be a PS2 gamer, but PS3's price was too much for me when it initially came out. But fuck. So many awesome games for PS3. Also, I miss how easy it was to game when I had a console. Nowadays I have to settle for graphic that seriously leaves me wanting more, but of course expected when I don't have a high-end PC.

I really wouldn't shut out the PS3 or the Xbox 360 when it comes to graphics or anything... cause you know... this just might turn up on both the consoles. In reality, maybe not til the end of the PS3's or Xbox 360's lifespan, but that's only an updated version of the Unreal 3 engine which runs on both platforms.

Plus that demo looks cool as a game itself... but running on 3 580 GTX's! That's CRAAAZZYYY.

I think he meant that the PS3's hardware is not being used to the maximum possible efficiency.  Which is probably correct.

We've own BOTH systems here and the only issue we've run into with PS3 that really annoys is the fact that ... so many of their games do NOT support 1080p. o_O Seriously, you could grab five PS3 games off the wall at a GameStop and four of them will be 720p, maybe one being 1080i, and ONE actually have 1080p ( I'm looking at you, Katamari Forever ).

So, assuming you don't have a 1080p television, this is not a problem, but as my fiance is a HD whore, X3. It's also kind of lends to the "PS3 still has untapped potential" bit.

Most games are in 1080p or at least up scaled to 1080p. A few 2D fighters or other 2D games are in 720p

http://forum.beyond3d.com/showpost.php?p=1113342&postcount=2 Has a decent summary of resolutions of PS3 games. PSN has more games than disc releases that are natively 1080p...

http://forum.beyond3d.com/showpost.php?p=1113344&postcount=3 Same for Xbox 360.

Basically there are a few games that are 1080p natively. Many that up-scales to it.

o_O Hello random negative attack. Am trying to ... you know ... get into posting here and ... that is so not friendly it's not funny. And according to the list that Sosseres there aren't that many, but again - I was talking about NATIVE 1080p, not upscaling.

As for my sources, I stated that it was my OWN resource. Like I said, it's called going into GameStop and looking at the back of the cases.

Keep in mind, I badly worded the fact I was talking about NATIVE 1080p - not an upscale. If that was the case, then most games upscale. ( Which, uh, Infamous upscale wasn't as pretty as it was at smaller resolutions. )

Now, looking at that list, I am going to wonder if Microsoft posts that their games are 1080p - as in the back of the game when it lists resolution it has that resolution - but really just upscale to it, where as Sony is being honest that it's native resolution is 720p and upscaling when it can. However, according to this link ( http://wikibin.org/articles/list-of-full-hd-1080p-ps3-games.html ) there aren't that many that are native or even upscale.

Annnnd after reading a few articles, looks like my conclusion that XB360 games that say 1080p are not necessarily that. Whoo, false advertising. :: Kicks MS. ::

In the end, BOTH systems lack true 1080p - excluding upscales, which do not all ways look pretty, X3. I find it amusing that PSN titles ( as well as XBL titles ) are more likely to be in 1080p than the games themselves in seems like.

No. The 360 lacks more games that can actually play 1080p native resolutions. Of course there are a lot of 720p native resolution games for the PS3, but most exclusives are in 1080p.

I never look at those multi-platform games. Because in the end ... they're multi-platform and won't take advantage of what the PS3 has to offer .. in many cases.

Which exclusives? I know for a fact that Infamous, Resistance, and Folklore, which are exclusives, are NOT 1080p. That list I linked to ( here again: http://wikibin.org/articles/list-of-full-hd-1080p-ps3-games.html ) is fairly recent and there aren't that many "exclusives" on there.

PS3 may upscale, but once again, some games when upscaled look HORRIBLE ( and most games do NOT upscale, they'll sit at 720p unless you specify otherwise ). There are over a hundred exclusive titles for the PS3 ( more like one hundred and forty, but whatever ) and there might be 15% that are actually 1080p - which is being generous. So if by most you mean 15%, then yes, you're correct.

( Now, don't get me wrong, I love my PS3. In fact, in terms of better online environment and play I would say that you should get one on that basis alone and, obviously, my XB360 won't play Blu-Ray and is part of the reason why it's the PS3 that is attached to the HD television and NOT the XB360, 'cause Blu-Ray = love. )

Unless you have a 40" HDTV to upscale games to 1080p, yes they do look horrible. And why would you want to upscale a 720p native resolution game?

There's enough 1080p native games for the PS3, exclusive wise. Don't look at the multi-platform.
