It does work for windows 7 (tested a few min ago without any problems at all) but I know a lot of people have had problems with it. It seems that mainly people with ATI cards have problems while nvidia works better.
Here are a thread with some suggestions. It focuses on the Steam version (which is the one I have) but many suggestions are general fixes.

I heard it had problems, but the developers released a patch so people on Steam would be able to play it on Windows 7 x64. I personally use ATI, and I didn't have to do anything extra to be able to play it.
