Turning off Firefox Update
« on: April 29, 2011, 04:55:12 PM »
The worst fucking application since patch 3.6 to ever update. Every update I do has issues with it. Even with two different computer upgrades, Firefox is so unstable to update. Unchecking updates. Great browser to use but very insecure to ever update this shit.

Never encountered any issues with firefox 4.

You sure you have all the windows updates installed?

The only time I have issues with firefox was when I stopped installing windows updates.

Firefox has one of the best ways of getting updated. It doesn't require uninstalling the current version, it's subtle and there's never any issues. Though as sapsa mentions, plugins could be an issue if you have a lot of those. I hardly ever use them, only dictionaries for British English and Danish, and Video DownloadHelper.

It just happens whenever I update. I had few blue screens long ago. Right now, I get a black screen right when it finishes updating or several hours after the updated Firefox is working and running. It's been very sweet before patch 3.6. I even did fresh Firefox installs, too. This problem persisted on my Vista copy about a year ago and on Windows 7. Again, I did two hardware upgrades and it still happens. I don't know to be honest but getting this black screen crap because of Firefox just hit that last straw for me. I may as well wait until 4.x hits or until 5.0 hits until I do a big update on it. Right now, it's working fine with no problems.

4.0.1 just updated. Seems the same, no problems. You sure it isn't just your computer?

I'm still using 3.6.17, I just got it from another Vista install of mine and copied over my AppData and it's exactly the same as before, extensions, favorites, addons, cookies and all.

I tried some 3.6 version from some old versions website and it was really buggy. Like, my Gmail didn't even have the option to let me log out or change accounts. Talk about screwy...

But yeah, the new Firefox looks too much like Chrome to me. I like my browser just how it is right now.

you could customize how ff4 looks, skin was it? literally arranging how ff4 looks, where tabs should be, bookmark lane, address bar, etc.

Amusingly, my workplace IT department basically forced all users with Firefox 3.6 installed to upgrade to 4.0.1 last week. Said it was some kind of security thing. I bet it'd be a greater security issue to go up to 4.0.1 so quickly, since it's only been out for a month or so.

It probably uses an algorithm that checks the versions of common programs installed on users' computers, and grabs the latest version available from the download location, and ensures you have the latest version (and if not, send that automated message).

But meh, I like FF 4. It's much faster than any versions of FF 3. Starting up FF 4 takes about 2-3 seconds, while starting up FF 3 takes about 15 seconds (rough estimate).

On topic, I think it's on my end if people don't encounter problems.

just install a separate explorer, i mean use both 3.6 and 4.0 and play around with them, if you get troubles with 4.0 then uninstall it, if its better, then either leave the 3.6 or uninstall it.
