Mortal Kombat
« on: May 03, 2011, 07:31:55 PM »
Has anyone else picked up this game yet?

The return of one of the blood and gore filled fighting game is thankfully a  great one. The game brings me back to my Mortal Kombat II days on the Sega Genesis. As I am typing this, my thumps are shaking (from the pain of awesome combos) and this has to be one of the best fighting games that has come out in a while. I appreciate and like Street Fighter and Marvel vs Capcom... but none of them compare to how awesome this game is.

Not only that, but my favorite move in general is not a Fatality... but Kratos' X-ray move

Anyways, has anyone got the game yet? If any of the BakaBT PS3 owners want to play King of the Hill or regular matches, add me (once PSN is up obviously). Xbox 360 fans are also welcome to discuss the game and set up matches against each other!

Now... Finish him!

Here's my $0.02

Whilst I haven't played MKIX, My memories of Mortal Kombat are of a poorly made, shallow and wooden fighting game. It's only redeeming feature was that it was so shallow it wasn't broken (compare to MvC which is so broken(lol roll-tier) it somehow manages to work again...No I don't like it either) IMHO Mortal Kombat is just a gore fest, not a fighting game
There must a be a reason for tanking things. And all must be in certain balance.

Gore fest? Definitely... Brutal? Definitely..

Not to ding on other fighting games, but some of them are pussy as hell (DoA) and some are too slow (SF). To tie in to anime, I love Blazblu with all my heart, but there aren't many fighters and 2D sprites isn't where it's at. Mortal Kombat, I think, really brings fighting back because no one looks perfect after a brutal match. Yes the story is totally out there, but at the same time, the combat is right where it should be. It's not too fast like Blazblu and it's not too slow like SSF. X-ray moves are easy to execute on the controller, but you have to time them well to hit. Fatalities also give the presence of Astral finishes from Blazblu while still having the epicness of Mortal Kombat's gore factor.

Maybe you aren't young enough to remember playing Mortal Kombat at the arcades and the whole "Kill of the Hill" aspect of winner plays again. I've been in deep freeze since the 3rd game and all I know is the 9th one is Godly.

Meh I STARTED with MK3 so w/e.

I can totally respect the DoA hate and SFIV hate. I can also Totally respect the Blazblue respect (GG was awesome, too bad it's over, but BB is Just as cool IMO) SFIII however was godly, as was Alpha Three

I'll probas rent 9 to see what's what. Maybe they've fixed it...

Agree, Mortal Kombat is so badass, that just the announcements alone are already more brutal than other games.  ;D

Also, Reptile theme (my favourite theme from Mortal Kombat)
For one thing, Tiff is not on any level what I would call a typical American.  She's not what I would consider a typical person.  I don't know any other genius geneticist anime-fan martial artist marksman model-level beauties, do you?

If it ever hits PC or Wii I'll DL it.

MK 3 must have been one of the most beaten fighting games in my youth, the thing was godly. Too bad the ones after that sucked.  :(

Because we can!

I mean come on, MvC had some of the craziest juggling combos yet there was no blood. Street fighter was so as hell.. fighting games should do this and this.

Of course, those above videos show really good players that can juggle like that. I could do what the Noel player does easily (cause she is dirty fast)... but I still have a ways to go to be able to do that in MK.

Hmm... the older MK games however had more blood and gore. That was half the fun in those games anyway, to see a fountain of blood every time you land a hit.

Although from what I saw in the MK9 videos, they reduced the ridiculous amount of blood compared to the older games, but the whole x-ray thing makes up for it. Not sure what game was in your first link, but it's a good example of how it's lack of blood and gore fails to captivate my inner child.

Although I must admit that it was a fun concept in Soul Calibur 4 where girls lost their armour when they got hit.  ;D

Soul Calibur 4 was fail. 2 and 1 are the best of the series.

Personally I like VF the best but haven't played since Team Battle.

Hey, I have only witnessed the 4th one with my own eyes, so I am not getting into that argument.

You would think it would be easy to redraw those 2D sprites with blood or visible wounds, right? NOOPPPEEE. I showed that one because it shows fast combat.. and that's what I really like in my fighting games.

I had MK in Snes and N64. . .Trilogy. . .god I was obsessed with Fatalities and all those "finishing" moves. . . it was an epic concept!

Last thing I played was MK4 that my cousin had. . .since then I havent played anything. . . I would love to play again and see new fatalities with improved PS3 Graphs. . .

EPIC FATALITIES!!

I love how somehow like 3 skulls pop out and 3 thorax cages

My brother in law and i have this. It's the SHIT!!!! one of my favorite games of the year thus far. And I had Crysis 2 which was awesome but not as fun as MK. Haha. I just love beating the shit outta my friend's and family. I am unbeaten thus far. We got it the day it came out and since we pre ordered we got the classic Sub-Zero costume with our purchase. Which... Is cool I guess. It doesn't matter to me. Scorpion is my guy on that game. But if you like MK pick this game up. If not, pass on it. I love it personally and I've never owned an MK game in my life.

Played it just now. It's actually much soother and less wooden than old MK. It's 2D as far as I could tell, so that explains why it was smooth. It was also a fair bit faster. Pretty good IMO but I need to play it more to pass judgement. May rent it instead of going to my mate's place again

Once you know combos, it goes even faster..

Pretty decent man. ^_^ Wait til you chain something even bigger and against a human. they'll probably want to punch you in the face.
But it's worth it in the end. :D

I have played every Mortal Kombat game to date this is probably the best of all of the Kombat games. I still Think they should do a Shaolin Monks sequel it was 2nd for me when dealing with MK games.
