E3 of 2011 [6.7.2011]

Takeshi:
Jesus Christ, some of these CEOs need to learn some proper English. Especially the Ubisoft CEO, Yves Guillemot, there's others too, of course, but I'm watching the GTTV stream although I am a bit behind it, and he's in it. Awesome job they're doing, by the way. Really exiting to follow their stream.

Translation for the Japanese guys also needs to be done better, I don't want them talking at the same time, it's distracting. The best way to do translation is for the foreign guy to say his stuff, and then for the translator to translate. It's very distracting to have both talking their mouth off.

I'm personally hoping to see a bit more Arkham City. It would be great.

It still looked clunky, it still looked too big, it still looked stupid. All of these things were being said some 6-7 years ago.

Did you watch ANY of the conference? Did you miss the various developers talking about their games being released on the new Nintendo console? Battlefield, Assassins Creed, and the entire EA sports lineup just names a few already "signed on" to the system.

Significantly lower level of graphics? In comparison to what - the unnamed and unseen future consoles that will not be released within a year of the new Nintendo console? It will be the top dog on graphics and processing power when it comes out and will continue to be for the following 9-15 months until Microsoft and/or Sony releases their next console. The hardcore gaming community does not wait - they purchase.

This new console is Nintendo's attempt to grab back some of the "hardcore" (read: FPS junkies) gamers back. They will have the graphics. They will have a nifty new controller system that Microsoft and Sony will attempt to copy (just like the Wii mote) and they will have the upper hand in 5-7 years when they roll out their next console because they acted first.

Sony or Microsoft will have to unveil something out of left field to get the momentum back just like Nintendo did with the Wii.

I think the only true concern over the next Nintendo console is the highly unacceptable Nintendo wifi network - though Nintendo is claiming their network will be up to snuff with Sony and Microsoft. The question is, will it remain free?

Did YOU watch any of the conference?

I saw a bunch of developers say that there will be games on the WiiU. What I also saw was a Killzone Tech demo all over again and they showed footage of Xbox 360 and PS3 and PC games acting like the WiiU can do this as well. Signing on to a system means Nintendo is or has already sent you a SDK. Will the same level of games be coming out for the WiiU as the other two consoles? I don't know. I DO know that if the console is that freakin small, I would want to know what type of nano hardware can fit in that little box of a console that would surpass both of the other systems. As for the backwards compatibility issue, is the hardware similar to the Wii with just higher spec numbers? OR is it software backwards compatible?

All in all, from what I got from the conference is that it will not surpass the 360 or PS3. Not even close. Hell, if I'm completely wrong, then I will swallow my words easily. Then again, it's not up to me to decide, it's up to the gamer masses.

It's all prototype - they have clearly stated they haven't finalized the design of the console or the controller (though apparently the controller is most likely going to be what we saw at E3).

I can't argue with you over the specifics of the internal hardware - nobody can (if they say they can they're lying) - but look at the future Zelda (not Skyward Swords, the one people played a bit of at E3 on the Wii U) and tell me that's not HD. The graphics displayed on any and every demonstration they displayed could not be rendered by the Wii - they just couldn't.

I'm sorry, buddy, but you're going to have to swallow this one eventually. Hold on for dear life until the hardware specifications are announced, if you like, but it wouldn't make sense if Nintendo did not strike with a powerhouse console. Their entire gameplan wouldn't work if this console was not technically superior to the PS3 and the 360. Hell, why would developers who have worked with the thing already come out in interviews claiming it was "far more powerful" (though that is up for interpretation until we see specs)?

As I stated before - will Sony and Microsoft strike back in a year or so with something more akin to a PC with a controller? Certainly. But they've lost a year of business. EA games would not sign on with Nintendo if it didn't have a console that could render HD graphics - EA games sells games based on graphics alone.

Tatsujin:
Quick shots – Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker gets shown in HD. Peace Walker will come part of the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection, which launches on PS3 and 360 this November. Seems like it's not a PS3 exclusive. WTF Kojima.

Cryptic puts Neverwinter site live, issues E3 teaser. MMO by Cryptic releasing this winter.

Hot damn, a Neverwinter MMO. I reserve my excitement, but it's still there.

***EDIT*** Also, on the subject on the Wii U again, 3rd party games of the "hardcore" variety have been confirmed for the Wii U. They include: Darksiders II, Tekken, Assassin's Creed, Ninja Gaiden 3, and more. Unless, of course, IGN is mistaken.

Neverwinter MMO? So now the "next" gen MMOs are as follows: Blizzard's Titan MMO, Star Wars TOR, GW2, and NW MMO. There definitely is some choice in there... assuming Titan is either a Starcraft based MMO OR if it's fantasy again, there still is two fantasy driven MMOs (which I'm sure some people are sick of). I know I'm getting TOR from day one... but depending on what "Titan" really is, it would be awesome if that was Starcraft driven. Instead of 2 factions, there will be 3 (unless they only stick to two and make the Zerg the over arching "main" enemy like the Burning Legion or the Lich King) factions to contend with. My only worry with that is the ability to make a lot of class distinctions and specialization of those classes. Either way, I'm definitely interested in what Blizz has to offer with Titan.

Now the WiiU needs a seller title to make the systems fly off the selves (ex a Halo and/or Uncharted game). Zelda is great, sure... but there is a point when milking the same first party IP for 25 fucking years. MS is really pushing it with Halo's 4, 5, & 6... which are actually Halos 6, 7, & 8. Uncharted is at an ok level with the 3rd one, but CoD had definitely been milked way past the death of the cow. Don't get me wrong, I love CoD and I will definitely get MW3... it's just Activision needs a diffferent power house hitter. This is why I'm ALSO looking forward to BF3 (cause come on people, don't try and defend Bad Company, they weren't as good as BF2 was at all) since that looks like a brand new engine and really looks like a fun game to play online.

Oh yeah, and they need to get rid of this friend code thing. I want to play with people from around the world... not the fucking people of PA.
