in Hollywood history.... Ok, maybe not that bad... but like a bad version of Starsky and Hutch...

Apparently 23,322 Bittorrent users who downloaded the movie "The Expendables" are all getting settlement papers in the next few weeks. Originally was suppose to be 6,500 people, but the list grew to 23,000 quite fast. The law firm that is doing this is hoping for an extortion method to how they are going to 'reap' the 'grievances' of the money lost from the Bittorrent'ers. "If you pay us $2,000, we'll make this lawsuit go away. If you don't, we can and will try to sue you for $150,000." Harsh, right? Like pure extortion.... and it's brilliant! If I was one of those lawyers! I guess, this new really doesn't effect me seeing as how... hehe... I don't watch terrible movies. I mean seriously guys... I saw that film in movie theater and I couldn't understand a fucking thing anyone said in that movie!

Anyways... sources? I didn't feel the need to find them... I'm sure you can find it at one or more popular torrent news sites.

Oh yeah, they have the list of all the IP addresses that are getting settlement letters (Already checked, but mine isn't on there!).

Damn, that's harsh.
Glad I didn't download that movie

I can't say this sets a precedent for more lawsuits, because stuff like this has always been going on.

On this level though? They can potentially make $35 million.

No matter to what extent they took this, it's fundamentally the same thing that's been going on for ages :(

that's why you never use bittorrent for american movies.  use sites like warezbb that post rapidshare type links.

This is bad since it will greatly encourage others to do the same. Legally, this may not be the same, but it effectively is quite different.

over 23K people downloaded that movie? It's not even worth getting for free. They are most likely doing this because they haven't made enough money to cover the cost of production.

So do they plan on cracking down on each and every one of those 23K who downloaded it? I don't understand the logistics of this :s

They are doing this because now that they have permission to get users info based on there ip they will send them letters and stuff telling them they downloaded this movie and that they should settle or they will take them to court. Chances are alot of people will just try to settle for whatever they offer and they can get a decent amount of cash without even taking poeple to court.

First of all, I don't remember a single movie in which Sylvester Stallone could talk properly.

Second, I downloaded it.
Third, legally there is not a damned thing the law firms can do about it. To get the identity behind my IP they would need a court order, however "they" can't get a court order since only police can investigate matters like this (yep, the court looks down upon "private investigations"). Of course the police has already expressed that they don't have resources to monitor torrent traffic and they have better stuff to do. In the end there is no way I could get a letter like that no matter what I download.

Norway: 100% safe torrenting since 2001.  ;D

For one thing, Tiff is not on any level what I would call a typical American.  She's not what I would consider a typical person.  I don't know any other genius geneticist anime-fan martial artist marksman model-level beauties, do you?

I don't know if this shit is true but I know we the concept of intellectual property only does shit in the era of Internet. We should abolish it. I'm usually moderate with all my positions except for this one. Copyrights must die!

Downloading American Movies Illegally = WIN
with 23K people being sued, that is a lot to keep track of.

Hey, The Expendables is a good movie. Seriously, I don't get why people don't like it. It's exactly how it is suppose to be. And it wasn't that hard to understand what they were saying and this comes from someone who isn't native english speaker.

I will stick with downloading movies that went over well, because then it is very unlikely they will make a big deal out of illegal downloads.
