SSD

vuzedome:
That's where the new hybrid comes in, the good parts of both sides, speed and storage.

Freedom Kira:
Hasn't the hybrid been out for a while now? It's not exactly "new." =P

Have you tried using an SSD yet? And by SSD I mean a decent one, not one of those crappy ones that run slower than a decent HDD. If not, please shut up, at least about the performance comparisons to other computer components, because you don't seem to understand what the greatest bottleneck in a PC is, and how much an SSD defeats that bottleneck.

The complaints about price and size are fair arguments, but that's about it.

Yes, I mentioned earlier that my friend has an OCZ IBIS which uses raid 0 with two SSDs.  I'd joke and call it a BiS instead.  Because it is impressive.  I've used his system often since I often house sit and babysit their dog when they take long trips.

If I were going to get one, it would be something similar.  But it costs over $600 for 240 GB.  Plus like mentioned earlier, TRIM isn't supported with Raid.

Smaller SSDs are silly to me, when I can't put what I want on it.  When the price of hard drives is so dirt cheap now, it would feel like going backwards to have to keep deciding on what I want and have to make room for on an SSD.  Like I said earlier, just having it for the OS and some apps does not impress me.

So while I think it's hot how fast it is, price is still the issue.  When the amount for the SSD that I think is worth having, is more than having two 6970's crossfired (that is two 6950 with 6970 bios).

I also agree that those hybrids seem interesting.

My 40GB Intel SSD operates fine, it's fast.

Freedom Kira:
I dislike OCZ's IBIS drives. The lack of support for them is rather discouraging.

OTOH, take a look at the latest top-end SATA III (6Gbps) SSDs. I believe a 240GB goes for less than $500. Here is one for $470. Might be cheaper in the States.
