Need some suggestions.
« on: May 15, 2011, 04:04:42 PM »
FYI: These suggestions are meant for my dad.

My dad has beaten Dragon Age origins and Dragon Age 2. He is looking for a game similar to DA. He wants a third person sword and magic game.
He has been playing Oblivion but doesn't like it much cause the third person view... sucks ass to be frank. He has a PS3 by the way and doesn't like
games on the PC. And don't both mentioning Mass Effect. He hates it cause it has to do with Guns.

Does anyone know of any games that fit this criteria?

Folklore is a good RPG magic game. I would suggest Fallout since you aren't really tied down to using guns, but it is similar to Oblivion.

Thanks. :D

He ended up getting Two Worlds 2.
He looked up reviews and game play footage of a couple games, Folklore included and he chose Two Worlds 2.

He wants a third person sword and magic game.
The Gothic Series matches this requirement.
Unfortunately, only the last game in the series is available on PS3.
Also, I haven't played the last one, only the first three (which I enjoyed), so I cannot comment on if it is actually any good or not.
But I thought it was worth mentioning.

Was Risen released to the consoles? Because that is the true Gothic game, while Gothic 4 is just a generic RPG not deserving of that name.
For one thing, Tiff is not on any level what I would call a typical American.  She's not what I would consider a typical person.  I don't know any other genius geneticist anime-fan martial artist marksman model-level beauties, do you?

^ Risen is apparently only available to PC and Xbox 360

Are you deaf as well as blind, woman? I'm not a carpet to walk over and I

Yes, you are right, the original developers went on to create Risen.
Have you played it yourself? If so, would you recommend it?

Yes, I played it and you can really see that it was done by the original Gothic developers. In the beginning of the game there is no mercy, no level scaling (aka Oblivion), you take one wrong step and a pack of wolves will murder you in a few seconds.

The world is big, graphics are good and gameplay is for once hard, but really satisfying. After all, when you get to the town gates and feel that "Holy, shit, I survived" feeling is what really sets an atmosphere for a real dangerous wilderness, as opposed to the feeling that you are in some Disney forest that many new RPGs give.

When you level up, the combat will become easier, not because of your level or whatever, but because you actually gain a weapon proficiency and can defend yourself, even though your enemies are as vicious as ever.

Hmm.... It got released at the same time on both platforms, so it was not an Xbox exclusive. I think this is the prime example of developers who are not touching PS3 because it is much harder to make games on it.

As for 2 worlds2 (the name is fucking ridiculous  ;D), it is awesome as far as game goes, but it somehow managed to make me lose interest after I got to another continent. Maybe it has too many irrelevant side missions. Hopefully other people will have a better momentum in story and continue the game.
