Terraria

Terreria is a new game that just came out yesterday (mai 16th) on steam. It's a sandbox greatly inspired by minecraft, except it's actually more of a Metroidvanias style platform. It's fairly known among Minecraft fans because Notch talked about it on his twitter. Several known LetsPlayers have also talked about it.

This game is amazingly fun and extremly addictive. It also has this oldschool looks I like. I hope they release another version for people who dislike steam.

If you want it, you can download it on isoh.. buy it for $9.99.

So, did you guys try it? How did you find it?

I've got a torrent of it (I will buy it, don't worry) I have to say, it's excellent so far. I'm not too far, I've only got an iron shortsword and no armour yet, but the whole environment is very well thought out, especially the NPC system. My only complaint is that it really needs a map or something. I get so lost sometimes, especially as I don't have a grappling hook
There must a be a reason for tanking things. And all must be in certain balance.
But what that balance is, must depend only on you, nobody else.

Great game, basically played it to death last week, and it got kinda boring after getting the best armor & tools, and after getting most of the special items. :/
I am guessing the game is meant to be played in multiplayer, which I have to say sounds amazing.

Building isn't really a big part of the game, so you can't really keep yourself occupied with that either, and since tools don't break you never have to look for more of a resource after you've got a better set.
Suddenly I just felt like there was nothing more to do. :S

Because I feel like it.

The same thing happened to me. This game is a lot of fun and very addictive but I guess it's not very durable. I basically found every items in the game except for the Whoopie Cushion, which is a joke item anyway. But then I don't see what more I could do. I guess I will be waiting for the upgrades.

@flyawave if you decide to pay for it I guess it will count for two (aka I didn't)

Oh dear Burk....

I got some multilayer in yesterday. It's definitely much better, especially when using a new character as it means you get to play the fun early game again. So a question. What sort of equipment should we have before tacking the bosses.?

In multiplayer all you need is 5 silk & some wood. xD
Just build a small house with a bed in it, and make everybody set their spawn point there. Then when you die you respawn right next to the boss. Just make sure that there always is 1 person alive.

If you want to fight you'll need top of the line gear, health upgrades(150+ recommended) and potions for Skeletron.
Basic gear and lesser potions for Eye of what's his face.(Ranged weapons are recommended since he flies around so much)
A ton of health & potions for Eater of worlds. (Good armor helps a lot since he hits you with many weak attacks instead of few strong ones)

Because I feel like it.

I find that simple bow+ fire arrows is the way to go early game. A wooden bow with fire arrows will do 5+7=12 damage as compared to 7 for a wooden sword or 10 for shurikans. Wooden bows have a use time of 30 compared to 100 for sword and 15 for shurikans, so the fastest is shurikans but it's actually harder to get, has shorter range and and can not be upgraded. Plus, the lighting capacity of fire arrows is invaluable for  early underground exploration. Permit you to fight while actually seeing what you do. You should still get a sword as a secondary weapon though, but if you have to chose between upgrading your bow or your sword, choose the bow. It's less expensive anyway.

Your ultimate equipment should be the completely overpowered Phoenix Blaster which deals 28 damage + (7 or 9 depending of your ammunition) for a total of 35 or 37 at insane speed (use time 10) and the Muramasa is definitely the best sword. A cobalt armour + Rocket Boots will give you the best mobility in combat.
