One of my favorite bands came from there. Plus I have a friend who had moved here from there.

Would anyone name their kid after an anime character?

No, no it doesn't.
It sounds like a stereotypical jap engrish.

Kurisu sounds like some kind of STD if it is not in Japan...

... and a lot of things sound nice and could inspire you to use them as a name, if you don't know what they mean. I mean, Belladonna sounds nice, or how about Salmonella for a girl name  ;D
For one thing, Tiff is not on any level what I would call a typical American.  She's not what I would consider a typical person.  I don't know any other genius geneticist anime-fan martial artist marksman model-level beauties, do you?

There must a be a reason for tanking things. And all must be in certain balance.
But what that balance is, must depend only on you, nobody else.

A good name would be Alloy.  That would be interesting.

No, I'd rather be called amalgam if I were to be named after a mixture of metals...

While Amalgam definitely sounds better than Alloy, I'd rather not be called after a mixture of metals... It reminds me of the names the gypsies around here give to their kids... Like [The] Ambulance ("Ambulanța"), Thermopane ("Termopan"), [The] Unexpected [one] ("Neașteptata"), Medallion, Paracetamol and other retarded things.
