Durian - A thorn-covered outer layer reveals a strong smelling fruit that is most definitely an acquired taste.

Mine were Plum, Kiwi, and Blueberry - though Figs were next on the list...

but, my all-time favorite is not on the list!

Huckelberries FTW over the summation of all the posted options - though admittedly most of you have never tasted them...
This stuff in gelato form or as mochi would be the best culinary concoction ever created... /me salivates over the idea...

^ Tomato Isn't fruit.

Very common misconception, I think Chya knows that too and added tomato just as a bait for the unenlightened.
Tomato is just one of them, cucumber, pumpkin, beans and bell pepper are all fruits that are too often mistaken as vegetables.

Durian, Duriam and Durian.
There's a reason why it's called the king of fruits you know.
But if I had to pick. Melon and Water Melon.
>mfw I tasted durian
Srsly it tastes like puke. even it smells like puke

It pisses me off how people say it smells like puke or sewers and all that crap. Seriously that's so immature, it's like cheese it smell is not actually bad it just strong. And in Durian's case, very VERY strong. The first time I smelled Durian I thought it smells like a garlic have been stuffed in my nostril. As for the taste, I guess that's you personal opinion but I think if you somehow put that smell out of your head than you can experience it's taste better :)

Why are there so many berries and other non-fruits on the list?

Because we can!

I love apples, and I like oranges and bananas.  I'm partial to the Gala apples from Chile.  They're crisp and just a little bit tart.  I don't care much for the Red Delicious apples unless they're really fresh; when they get too old, they start to get mushy and have a really disgusting texture.

My dad only eats bananas when they're really green; don't know why, I think they taste too bitter.  The best banana is one that's ripened just enough that it hasn't picked up any black spots.

And oranges have to be fresh, sweet, and juicy.  Navel oranges are pretty much the way to go, but Mandarins are really good, too.
It took an hour to write; I figured it'd take an hour to read.

Cucumber

It's just as much of a fruit as tomato. So I choose it.

"Vegetable" is a term with a culinary meaning. "Fruit" has two different meaning: Botany and culinary.

"In botany, a "fruit" is a part of a flowering plant that derives from specific tissues of the flower, mainly one or more ovaries"(wikipedia). Vegetable doesn't have a specific botanic meaning.

In culinary art, fruit and vegetable both represent food cumming from plants. The main difference is that fruits are sweat and vegetables are not. That's very subjective and we rely mainly on conventions to classify them. Several culinary "fruits" are not fruits biologically and several vegetables are actually fruits.

Tomatoes are not very sweat so it used to be classified as a vegetable but people have started to debate that for botanic reasons a decade or two ago. But that's a common misconception.

I've tasted Durian ... thought it was a dried in a can ... it did have an interesting smell & taste, but it was not to my liking.  It was a gift to the staff of the comapny I worked for at the time from the Factory Owner / Manager that we work with to product our products.

Also ... Don't care if TOMATOES area fruit or veggie ... I still love them, but sometimes they don't love me ... T-T ... I get a stomach ache.

@ Ixarku
I think your dad is like me & prefers the firmness of bananas when they are on the greener side ... then again here in Hawaii there are a few cooked dishes that are made with green bananas.

The Factory Owner visited our store ... and gave us snacks from Thailand.  The Factory is located in Thailand.
