at the time of swordmaking, the katana was ahead of it's time. it was strong, but flexible with a very sharp edge. needless to say, it got the job done. i could go into detail, but ya know... teh sake.. plus you can wiki it yourself. what do i look like, the internets?

You don't have two of my favorite swords. Ashkandi, Greatsword of the Brotherhood and Excalibur.

Ashkandi, Greatsword of the Brotherhood is 1 sword, not 2 separate ones ;D

IRL:
Machete
Ninhoto katana

Weak, light swords, which specialize in cutting.

Fantasy:
Ganondorf's Execution Sword
Lyn's Mani Katti

Because I feel like it.

I swear, Obama with a pistol sword and a scissor katar would be equally as cool...
There must a be a reason for tanking things. And all must be in certain balance.
But what that balance is, must depend only on you, nobody else.

Well, this isnt from an anime, but one of the most powerful swords ive ever seen in any video game is the moonlight sword of the kings field series.  that sword is almost unfair.

2 cents  ::)
