Fable III (PC cuz That's the one I played)

(1/1)

Havoc10K:
So, I finished it earlier today, did some other stuff in the meantime and was wondering if anyone discussed the game here, finding nothing decided to open discussion thread for it.

I played the goodie two shoes as they say, which isn't as hard as many people claim to know.

Anyways.
I expected something at least close to the first game, I mean, I didn't actually expect to have this many spells though it would be more fun with Assassin's Rush at least, melee weapons weren't very spectacular, only long swords and hammers, kinda boring, well, at least guns were fun.

As for the game itself, it isn't entirely disappointing, there are many things to do and many people to kill, much more than the first part had, however what did disappoint me was terribly weak boss encounters.

And I mean very weak, The first boss is the bandit Leader, unlike in Fable 1 this was all too predictable and terribly easy fight, not that the Fable 1 Bandit Leader was hard, but at least it was someone very Unique, Twinblade was a real Bad Ass, an Ex-Hero wielding dual Swords, he looked Bad Ass and was Bad Ass, but here you have a common Bandit Ass Lieutenant, you encounter them later on in more numbers and there are very easy ways to kill em, hell i flurished the Bandit Boss with a hand gun, wasn't much of a fight, but with Twinblade it was much more entertaining at least.

Many aspects of the Fable concept are always fun, random sex, stealing, shooting people in the head, from behind no less :D

Fable 3 misses all the fun support spells that made Fable 1 so exceptional, I dunno how it was in Fable 2 cuz I didn't play it, however, Fable 1 for PC received an extra chapter, I was very disappointed to see that over such a long time Fable 3 only gets a pre-ordered set of weapons and some tattoos, not very rewarding, especially for such an awesomely long time of waiting, and no, improved graphics engine for PC HD Hardware and a read PC-ish interface is not what I would call a reward.

Although the game received a big update for PC from trashbox it still has many quirks that Lionhead didn't even think about implementing in PC version, and personally I feel like laughing in their faces for it.

The General Irks and annoyances:
-LockON -In Fable1 player could press SPACE and his target was set no running around trying to face your opponent.
-Donating how much you want to the beggars, I mean, come on, I want to give em more than 10 gold and waste less than 5 minutes for 100 gold donation :P
-Money Transfer from pockets to treasury and vice versa in a simple digit way, instead I have to waste more minutes setting up the exact amount I want to throw into treasury and play with A<>D and hope that using a feather on any of them will only increase the numbers by 1, really annoying and could have been done right.
-Secondary Spell Casting, It irks me that I only have two options, cast a spell on target, or do area of effect, I can't cast any other spell If I don't have a gauntlet for it and it's either say Fireball or Fireball + Vortex, or any other combination that doesn't really increase the damage done but simply shows a nice animation and wastes a lot of options, and here I could cast Frost Storm to freeze an enemy (which never happens btw and that is utter stupidity) and thaw with fireball, or zap with lightning Fable1 style, now that was lightning, Force push is just a less visible and more transparent version of fireball and lightning, nothing spectacular
-Fireball/Lightning/Force Push have exactly the same animation effects, just different side effect cuz it actually can attack enemies kinda differently with Lightning, but the overall effect is exactly the same.

Now to flame the spells that are useless, talk about a wasted potential:
-Fireball isn't actually a fireball, I wish there was a patch that changed it into Flame Bolt, it doesn't even burn enemies when they die from it, only kills and you get the orbs, I'll get back to the orbs later, yes, i'll flame and bash them as well.
-Lightning, not much to say here, the spell doesn't remotely act like the name suggests, it's just a bolt of spark that if you have no targets will go on random direction, isn't particularity damaging, but does have a dot on higher levels (Damage Over Time for those not acquainted to the term dot :)) which isn't very effective as well, especially on challenging level, will stick a finger in that as well later on :)
-Force Push, now this is a name George Lucas should take a look at, it does what it says, kind of, it's like a fireball spell, just weaker and more transparent, funny thing cuz you'd think that combining it with fireball or lightning would improve the damage, well, combining doesn't improve damage at all, in fact, combining spells only adds a second effect to every spell. More about that later :)
-Vortex, now there is a name I expected something fun from, well, it kinda is fun, when you combine it with Frost Storm, other than that it's pretty useless, untill you menage to cast lvl 3 of it on a single enemy and you can focus on other enemies around you, the good thing about this spell is that AOE is at least useful, if there are many slow enemies around you cast a maximum level AOE and you can actually slow them down or disrupt their actions, some even trip, sometimes, This spell is very effective in combine with Frost Storm, and it's the only combo that has good use actually, Higher Levels of Vortex+Storm will disrupt target AND cast the Storm spell around it damaging everyone nearby, that is cool.
-Frost Storm, this spell is in general very useless on single targets and I don't recommend using it unless you have at least lvl 3 gauntlet because the AOE is magnificent, everyone around you is getting an Icicle in the head for at least 10-15 seconds (level dependent) other than it;s AOE the spell is useless on single target, targets move, storm isn't :)
-Blades, good for 2 sec stun, also, misses often, as said above, targets move, storm isn't well, blades gain a target lock, but still miss if the target is too close, odd, the closer the more misses, Damage os not impressive but Blades + Fireball work really well, blades+ lightning as well, stun+stun instead of longer stun and dot, odd, force push doesn't add much, just pushback giving you 2 secs stun instead, not very useful, blades+storm, are odd, I don't even notice any effect, Blades+Vortex is kinda fun, the target that gets hit by vortex is then hit by blades, 100% hit rate, for once. Blades AOE is fun, plenty of swords and if you have 3-4 targets in the range area it's kinda funny seeing them impaled :D

Now lets bash on the Orbs, Fable 1 had an excellent system for those that made you collect them instead of auto collecting, game the better feeling to it, also, different XP stats were more fun and balanced, instead of pretty much no XPstat, very disappointed, also, no HP bar or indicator, when you get below 80% hp you can use a potion, technically the enemies are so slow that you should be able to avoid all melee attacks, different with spells and guns, you have to work that yourself, but generally, there is no way for you to die in this game, you just lose a seal XP and you can go on, well technically you probably can die if you have no seals on you, wouldn't know, never had a chance to test it out, just tried to die very hard in one fight to see what happens, took me around 4 minutes of not doing anything to die, hilarious, it takes around 20 seconds to kill 6+ enemies around you with a gun, fun but too easy, especially when you AIM in the head, or Flurish.

Another section is Clothes, all so many clothes, they are just clothes though, even the Warrior outfits are not that much better protection from physical damage, you just look different, but that is that, gotta say, I fought a few battles in melee mode completely naked and there was no difference, except that it was fun looking at a Princess with a sword and gun in underwear :D.

Lastly, but surely I should talk about Albion itself, not much to say, which is sad, It's beautiful, and, nothing else, really, some places, for some reason are inaccessible, yeah, you have to buy the DLC to check those places you can see from behind rocks, on the map you will see a location you cannot enter, that is, two locations, you have to buy DLC, pretty funny, oh well.

And just a small irk, I so miss divorces by beheading, don't you ?
