Best bang for your dollar is to wait for Skylake if you're going Intel.

--

So the PS4 is less than a month away. Two games were pushed back till early 2014. I'm hyped for Killzone: Shadowfall and The Order. Maybe they'll bring Beyond to the PS4. I didn't purchase it on the PS3 since they may bring it to the PS4.
that is what thay said about haswell

Intel never was bang for your dollar (especially not for gaming)
Intel is a beast. Haswell is a behemoth in my opinion. Cost efficient, significantly less heat and power consumption and extremely RIDICULOUSLY fast compared to AMD's processors. No idea what you're complaining about. Go check out the reviews and benchmarks.

Skylake is a whole different story. I am wondering when will they move on from the Core i generation. They're stuck on the 22 nm since the transition to 14 nm proved to be very difficult. They're getting there from their last announcement few weeks ago though, while AMD is still ... at what again?

The original Nehalem was bang for my € at least. my core i7-920 processor still lasts, and is not reaching it's limits yet, even though it's at the stock speed of 2.67 GHz. Although I don't encode, so I probably don't count, do I? I only game CPU intensive games (EU4+PCSX2 simultaneously for example) and it does that perfectly.

The update adds background music player Oo, for some games that's a necessesity in the long run (I'm not talking about Eternal sonata, here, it's going more in the direction of Disgaea)
I would love to have your processor. That should have been my processor if I waited few more months before it came out. Honestly, any i7 upgrade will last you generations.

While it is true you don't need an i7 to play games. An i5 is more than enough, even the 5% (or less) margin for games is not sufficient to blow another 100 USD for an i7. What people don't tell you is how many threads and % of CPU usage between the two. :) So far I've hit about 25-33% at the highest settings for Crysis 3 and Metro 2033 for my Haswell i7 stock-speed. An i5 would require more processing power to achieve the same quality which requires more energy + heat.

On topic, I've been purchasing those 5 dollar meals from Tacobell and trying to win a PS4. I want another one.

I just noticed the impossibility of me getting a PS4 while I'm in hungary, because they don't allow shipping for anything with a laser inside, since it's classified as dangerous goods.... So my only chance to get a PS4/replacement for my PS3 is if I finish my exams early, since I will have something resembling a break then...

I wouldn't necessarily point out shooters as the most CPU intensive games. Afaik dwarf fortress still pushes all known processors to it's limits, and that game has ASCII graphics, I should grab that and see how well my processor fairs with that one.

Dwarf Fortress? Never heard of it. I'll check it out.

I just randomly tried it a bit... I think if you're really into it and create a colony with 1000s of workers, then it might be taxing, but it doesn't appear to use more than 4 threads, and it didn't exceed 10% CPU capacity used, with my 10 dwarves^^

I meant to go for Skylake by that time. Or otherwise, get whatever you feel like getting.

I'm loving my i7.

Wonder why no custom wallpaper? Are themes that lucrative a revenue source? I know I never wanted to buy any, and only went with ones I got for free (really neat that you could use the Japanese PSN store and pick up their free themes, so long as you could navigate their complicated nested menus.)

The place where I hope to spend <1% of my time is the menu screen. Custom themes are take 'em or leave 'em for me.

The one thing I want (and I've always eventually gotten) is the translucent red controller. I already have one for my PS3, but I want one on the PS4 now... :(

Maybe in 5 years when they somehow figure out how to manufacture it to meet the high demands of the PS4 structural capabilities. >.>

They sell them before the system is out.  Pretty common for new consoles.

You can even pick up Killzone Shadow Fall already (and Battlefield 4 as well).

I'm kinda pissed that they removed DLNA support.  I use PS3 Media Server ALL the time.  Hopefully they do fix that.

Lmao this is hilarious. CoD: Ghosts official native resolution to run 1080p on PS4 while XB1 will run at 720p native resolution.

Haaahaaaaaaaa.

They were serious when they said that they want developers to offload AI on to the cloud. Well, there you have it... developers that didn't use it and kept the AI on the client machine.

Trust me, it's one game. It proves absolutely nothing. I am thankful I was *smart* and went with a PS4 preorder, but one game does not make or break a console. However, this is a black eye for microsoft seeing as how they poured so much money into exclusive deals with EA and Activision.

Turns out... Battlefield 4 runs really fucking well at 900p @ 60 FPS on the PS4 while there is a review and video embargo on the X1 version (which only runs at 720p @ 60 fps). CoD: Ghosts will be full 1080p on PS4 while it is 720p on X1... so much for that?

In either case... Killzone Shadow Fall looks fucking amazing...  ;D

Yea, I really could careless about BF4 and Ghosts since I'm getting them on PC. Killzone, on the other hand, just looks outright fucking gorgeous.
