Obviously anything popular must be terrible. ::)
It's possible to enjoy both on their own merits. The hipster angle of hating on FF7 is just as tired as the fanboys obsessing over it.

I love Ni No Kuni, which is popular as hell, but something that are popular...are shit.
I'm a hipster of hipster FF7 hate.
I was hating on FF7 back when I had dial-up.

Testing the PS4 in the wild: a promising start for the PSN and the new console

Ni No Kuni is pretty niche relative to any main series FF game, to be honest.
I think it's perfectly acceptable to allow FF7 to be a decent game even if you happen to prefer FF6. From what I skimmed of the video you linked one thing I noticed (alongside the disabled comments) was the emphasis entirely on story. Which is important in an RPG, certainly. But I think mechanically FF7 at least tried some new stuff, while FF6 was fairly conventional, given it's predecessors. FF7 is hardly the greatest story ever told, but I still like how it played.

Anything interesting on the PS4 PSN yet?
