You might know about
Love My Life and how crappy that encode is (which btw is merely 675 kbps, 1080 kbps is the whole movie bitrate including audio). I liked the movie quite a lot, don't care if it's cheesy, live action yuri is always nice

I went on looking for a proper encode (gawd, what am I saying, I RARELY see h264 encodes of jap stuff aside anime and recent dramas releases, when it's not hardsub that is

). Anyway, I went on looking for the original DVD. I came across two but apparently are hardsubbed. One is on the... DVD Club of Asian things

, and says:
Source...........: DVD5 Retail
DVD Format.......: NTSC
DVD Size.........: DVD5
Programs used....: DVD Decrypter
Video Bitrate....:
Screen Format....: Widescreen
Audio Language...: Japanese
Audio Format.....: DD 2.0
Subtitles........: English
Menu.............: [X] Untouched, intact.
[ ] Stripped.
Video............: [X] Untouched, intact.
[ ] Re-encoded.
DVD Extras.......: [X] Untouched, intact.
[ ] Re-encoded.
[ ] Stripped.
[ ] None on source.
And then one comment saying it's hardsub. On a Russian tracker I found a very similar thing but at least it has screens, which I'm 99% sure they are hardsubs:

And as a side comment... WTF? Do hardsubs even exist in ORIGINAL DVDs? Can't we be safe from this crap at least on the glorious original source? Never seen hardsubs on DVDs. This can't be Japanese ofc, it could be a crappy American release? Or, most probably, someone with nothing to do grabbed the crappy xvid encode hardsubbed, made a DVD ISO and made it look like a real DVD. It gets more obvious when you look at the blocking typical of xvids. It's also very blurry. There are 2 encodes, a hardsubbed one that looks like you're watching shit moving across the screen and the one here on BBT, clean and looks better... well, "better". It surprises me that the "DVD" says it even includes menus and extras. Someone really took the effort to make a DVD from the encode? Or the original (hardsubbed?) DVD was THAT crappy? Lol, I don't know what to think. After all, the version here on BBT still remains the best, clean, and from the looks at least it seems an "original" encode. It would not be the first time I have a raw and the "hardsubbed" only to see that the hardsubbed one has the same artifacts/blocking/etc from the raw but duplicated. If you're going to make hardsubs at least encode from a transport stream/original disc. If not have the decency to mux your subs with the raw available and done.
Enough with the rant

. I've already tried to look for decent encodes/actual DVDs of several things only to found encode of the encode, homemade DVDs, hardsubs, and many times not even a raw. The Asian "scene" aside from anime sucks big time. I'm going to drop audiovisual media for the time and resume Jap studies harder. Last thing I need now is a hardsubbed novel or blocking on my kanjis <_<
P.S.: I KNOW you have to be grateful for everything, but, why can't there be more h264 encodes, proper DVDs, DVD remuxes (untouched video + encode to flac if audio is lossless, otherwise keep the AC3, DTS, etc; I do these every time I have access to a DVD). If ppl love so much xvid (h264 has been around for a WHILE now) at least you decent bitrates that don't RAPE the poor movie. 4-digit bitrates don't bite

P.S. 2: I'd LOVE to buy DVDs and shut the fuck off, even when my currency is as worth as dog's shit, import taxes are so high that it's like those "buy 1 take 2" DVDs sales but the opposite, customs are so crap that things may get "lost" (aka stolen), but even that, I don't have means to buy internationally.. it's like... the tip of the iceberg

. This turned out to be yet another rage-at-encodes thread. But it still amazes me how you can find gazillons of encodes, releases, DVDs, BDs, OSTs, artbooks, etc, etc of crap anime and for a stupid move/drama/etc (NOT anime) most of the times you're lucky to find a crappy encode at all :'(
