I've just been to the ATOMIC site to see if they had a review on the MB in the OP and it came up with the one you have.
Apparently your particular MB has been 'ruggedised', which means that it is 'military spec', as tested by a third party...... or that is what it says on the Atomic web site.

Niche products, well there are demands for such so what's stopping ASUS from going the extra (unneeded) mile.
Hell, I think it looks great, solves dusting problems as well.

Here is the problem I see with that. Heat will build up between each component on the mobo and the shield is prevent cool air from the intake fans the heated air under the shield. Its for looks, not performance.
