But this being anime, and the fact she is unconcious and "it would take a miracle for her to recover" suggests to me that she will recover, and everyone will live happily ever after. If they wanted to kill her off, they'd have just had her die.

I didn't even know it was based on a novel, though I guess that's my fault for not reading the OP properly :P

There is only one ep left now.
They should have made the whole series double-time per ep and shouldn't have dragged it like that in some cases imho. But i think they did the show like they did so that they have enough material for a S2. Hopefully we won't have to wait too long until they make it.

Her action had a message, as you noticed, her brother was worried, he never called and now he did. The message was sent and it made an effect. Too bad that message had to be sent like that, or at all.
