(click to show/hide)I don't think he actually joins them (he himself seems to deny it as well), but has himself be officially recognized as their friend or maybe a business associate, rather than just a friend of Alice. Will probably make it easier for him to get them to help out in any of Alice's cases.
Of course, I could be wrong.
