Whenever a beer thread comes up, people always bash the mainstream ones and throw fancy, never-heard names..

Maybe you guys can throw good to decent ones that are not so hard to find. I'm from Canada, btw.

Unibroue is an excellent Canadian brewery.  If I can go to pretty much any decent grocery in Houston and find a few of their beers, you should be able to do the same.  Try Don de Dieu.

Unibroue is from my province. Quebec is known for its many small brewery. The SAQ has a legally enforced monopoly on every alcoholic beverage except beer, so if you want to make alcohol but you don't want to deal with state interference, you have gotta make beer.

I've no idea what beers are common in Canada, so I can't really offer any advice on that, but the best way to find good beer that you like is to try as many different ones as you can. Just go down your local off-license, pick out a selection of different bottles which look good, and try them. Some you'll like, some you won't, but it's the best way to find new beers which are both nice, and easy to obtain locally. That's how I found pretty much all my favourites.

Molson
Rickards
Sleeman
Kokanee
Coors
Budweiser
Bud Light
Keiths'

The "main" ones you'll find in most bars anyways.

I would strongly recommend Boddington's Pub Ale.  Also Dogfish Head 90 Minute IPA if you are a fan of IPAs.  I know a lot of people don't like the flavor of IPAs, but I tend to enjoy them  ;D

I used to love Keiths IPA. Chug that shit in a moment. But now it just tastes like turpentine to me. Pilsners are even worse.

My normal draft beer of choice is Yuengling - being on the central east coast of America it's a very common beer but I'm told it's not common anywhere else. It's terrible bottled, as a warning.

Beer from a bottle? Honestly, Kirin. While I've never had the "legit" Kirin (being in America I can only get the ones brewed in Canada) I do like the kind I can find on rare occasion at the grocery.

Beer from a can? No. Nobody should ever drink beer from a can.

Drinking game beer? Budweiser Select. It's sufficiently light but has a taste beside "water" like the other common drinking game beers.

Ooh, you have good taste. Hobgoblin is lovely. Goliath, from the same brewery, is great too.

Incidentally, today is National Drink Beer Day in the U.S.  Not that I ever need an excuse to drink, but I'm heading out to forage for beer in a few minutes once a friend gets here.
It took an hour to write; I figured it'd take an hour to read.

I live in Belgium and I occasionally enjoy trapists.
The ones I really like are Duvel, Leffe and Grimbergen.
I once bought a cholocate beer and liked it, but that one really differs for everyone.
Beers brewn with fruit are called ''girl ales'' here, like Kriek (brewn with cherry).
Beer with banana comes from Africa, never drunk one.
And I only ever drink one stout: Guinness, fresh from the barrel.

German smoked beer Schlenkerla is awesome too :D

Im from Croatia and most of people just drink domestic beers (there are few good ones (Tomislav and Velebitsko Tamno)
but Im lucky to live near a pub with more than 230 different beers :D http://scout-irishpub.com/beer_card_hr.html

There are some rare and expensive beers like Samichlaus Beer

I tried the St. Bernardus Abt 12, way to strong for me!

I'll stay with the usual Leffe or Grimbergen.

Today I discovered a wonderful little wine shop not far from me which has a lovely selection of beer. So I now have sat in my fridge a bottle of Saison du Silly (which is lovely stuff), a bottle of Fraoch (which is a Scottish beer brewed from heather. Looking forward to seeing what it's like), a bottle of Tiny Rebel brewery's (who are a new microbrewery which opened near me fairly recently) Chocaholic (a chocolate stout which I tried at a beer festival once - it was delicious, but so rich I was barely able to finish half a pint of it, and felt sick afterwards. This bottle's gonna last me a while), and a bottle of that German smoked beer which I can never remember the name of (might be that Schlenkerla you mentioned).

That and a pub just down the road from me has just come under new management, and as a result has now started selling a fine selection of real ale (with a beer festival starting tomorrow). So I now have plenty of cask ale less than 5 minutes walk from me! :D

Truly, today has been a fine day for beer.

I had a couple bottles of Holy Mackerel's Panic Attack this weekend.  I like it a lot.  It's not quite as strong tasting and in-your-face as a Three Philosophers or Gulden Draak, which makes it a lot more drinkable IMO.
It took an hour to write; I figured it'd take an hour to read.

Molson Canadian - just because they have awesome commericals, lol.

I'm not really a big beer drinker, mostly vodka + whatever..

Molson is good. I get it when I can. They don't have much of it in the stores near me.

I like Yuengling which I drink most of the time. Right now I'm drinking some Samuel Adams Octoberfest. Pretty good. I usually don't drink Samuel Adams.
