Or you could just buy a car...

Its illegal to run people down with your car, but its okay to use your computer. Also cars won't get you porn.

But yes, if I remember what age he was correctly (I believe he mentioned it in one of these topics), him having that much money is highly unlikely. I had that in mind before I made my post.
IIRC, his parents are disgustingly rich.

They are not, we're pretty middle class.  However you want to determine that.

Anyway, I've already got a monitor.  Is a single GTX 590 going to be able to handle most games?

I play SCII and some older war sim games, but I'd like to be able to play Battlefield 3 at reasonable settings.

Or I could just buy it here again.  Could someone please tell me exactly how much they are overcharging for the hardware?

A lot.

build a single 30-inch system with 2000 dollars and blow the rest on a high-upload Internet plan.
I doubt 2k would get you a 30' system, a u3011 alone is around ~1.3k.

Get a 3007 WFP-HC since it has lower input lag and they can be found for ~$700 in mint condition.  Only complaint I'd have with it is that the AG coating is pretty aggressive as in it's sparkly / muddy on white backgrounds.  I got used to it, but eh, at first I wanted to return it, but you don't see it it all on other colors.

Had a quick look at the Mach V.

Impressive stuff right off the shelf and you can configure your own version of it too.
The 2 week build time is a bit much, but if you are willing to wait for what could be a top-end gaming machine, it's all good.

I just got the latest 'Atomic' magazine and here is a list of components that make up 'the perfect pc', according to them. All prices in Australian Dollars. I'm leaving out some things, such as monitor, mouse keyboard.

CPU: AMD Phenom II X6 1090T $290
Motherboard : MSI 890FXa-GD70 $265
RAM: Corsair Dominator GT CMT4GX3M2A2000C8 $220 (doesn't say how much RAM in the kitlog....)
GPU: ATI 6990 $849 (apparently the fastest video card around as of the writing of the article..)
HDD&SSD: OCZ REvo Drive x2 and WD 600GB Velociraptor   $780 & $400
CASE: Silverstone Temjin Series TJ11  $600
PSU: XFX 850W $215

That's just the stuff I would get, although I'd prefer an Intel CPU, which means the MB would also be different.

I'll see if there is a link to the current 'Kit Log' and stick it in here somewhere, so you can have a look.

Edit: The current 'kit log' isn't available yet, but here is a link to the 'Atomic' magazine website --> Linky

The TJ11 is fucking ugly and for $500+ USD no way.  Get a TJ07 which is nicer and cheaper.  For that price you may as well get a Windy case custom made from Japan.

XFX PSU?  No thanks.

OCZ RevoDrive?  Why?

That magazine has no idea what they're talking about.

I guess it's a difference of opinion here.

As I said "according to them". The 'Kit Log' has several different builds, ranging from an el-cheapo $1000 build right up to the 'perfect pc' which weighs in at $5413.

So the case is ugly, according to the writeup it was picked because and this is a direct quote from the mag, "Few can match the sheer space, cooling power and sturdy construction".
I'm not particularly crazy about the way it looks either.

You should see the case they picked out for 'the game box'.
It's a "Antec Lanboy Air" and in my eyes it's not the prettiest thing around.

Tomoya-kun is looking for different options for a computer.
If he's anything like me at all, he'll take one look at the case and go 'ummm.....no. yuck.'

What is better, X58 based system or P67?

I might just buy a prebuilt one, as I've never built a computer before.

In terms of MB, is Maximus IV Extreme worth the $400 premium over the P8P67 deluxe?

From what I've read around the place recently, the P67 is the 'in' thing at the moment, being an advance on the X58.

Another thing you could do, is go and visit the guy/person you take your computer to when it gets sad on you.

Hopefully you have a 'local' computer shop that you can walk into and talk with somebody about computers.

Most of those places will hand build you a computer to whatever specs you want, as long as the dollars are available.

A lot of them even have a number of 'pre-made' computers, that they are willing to put together for you and they will range from super el-cheapo jobs right up to pretty powerful ones.
The wait time on those *should* be less than a week.

The one thing you shouldn't do however, is go in and say "I have X amount of money to spend on a computer" or maybe you should.

You could very possibly walk out of the shop with a much better computer than you thought you would get for your money.

Anyways, it looks like you are getting lots of advice. Now all you have to do is decide which is good advice and which is bad.

Edit: had a thought while I was writing the last line, my 'local computer shop' has quite a good website, this --> Gaming Computers is a link to their site.

Check out the 'Infinite' package. Just over $4000 Australian.
I'm not saying this is the build you want, but I saw the price tag on and thought..."that's close to what he wants to spend".

You should be able to get your hands on 99% of that gear where you are Tomoya-kun, what that lot is worth in your money I have no idea.

IMO, don't decide to built one unless you have the motivation or knowledge. Maybe try that out when you need a new computer in a few years.

I don't know about you, but saving $1000+ on my computer would surely give me the motivation to build it myself.

yeah. The computer I'll be putting together would have cost me $2500 at Dell, and the computer I would be getting would still be inferior to what I am building for $1100.

(click to show/hide)

i`d pick the latter and get 3 widescreen monitors and set them to eyefinity on portrait mode :D

or this.

note: notice the parts, SSD 540$ 2x120gb Vertex3 || GPU 774$ 2xHD6970 || HDD 300$ 2xWD black 2TB already sums to 1.6k.

lets say i dont get a pair of everything.
still is a damn 1.9k rig.

the only thing i can think of that'll make this kind of setup go under 1.5k is having only 8gb of ram, switching to a more cheaper case and getting an HD6950 instead.

So I'm still confused.  Which is outright superior, X58 or P67?

I have to ask. What are you looking for in a PC?

Gaming performance / folding at home dedicated machine.

1. Stop thinking in terms of money like a MacTard. Nothing against Apple, but don't compare prices. That's Apples and PCs. One is stupid pricing, the other isn't. You're adding like a 20-30% premium on hardware because of the OS... Fuck.
2. Don't go for some high end rig if you go desktop. (I think a laptop is worth playing money on a high end rig if you bleed money like a monkey)
3. For $4000 you can literally build a workstation rather than a desktop. I'm talking $300-500, Dual CPUs and crazy shit like that. If your desktop costs that much... you either overpaid like a moron, or bought a Mac. You should be able to build 2 decent servers for $4000. Even at 1500-2000 that's HIGH end.

Asking superior on X58 and P67 afaik is like asking whether a car runs better with cloth or leather seats. Of course, certain things must be different for either or, but it's really more in the realm of preference. But I don't know the tech difference between the two, so my opinion is a little invalid.
This is your home now. So take advantage of everything here, except me.
