There is a blockbuster where I live. It's the only one for miles though.

Not in Canada anymore. I'm shocked it's still in the UK.

These people who are pre-ordering are idiots. Seriously, idiots. Put aside a negativity towards X-Box One, you want a thus far un-priced console to play over-priced launch titles of unknown quality on a system which may or may not function as advertised at extra cost to yourself. Without waiting to see if there are any not unprecedented bugs or defects, or getting any critical appraisal? At, I repeat, extra cost to yourself!

Or is this all part of a plan to wait to mid-Christmas season and auction your system off at an inflated price to desperate fools?

That article is pretty useless. I mean first off preorders don't mean anything until a person actually purchases the system. But more importantly they give no numbers. They just announce they have more preorders than any launch in all of blockbusters 24 year history. I dunno about you but blockbuster is the last place I would ever buy a console from. I cant believe there previous preorder history is all that big. Until they give some solid numbers this doesn't mean anything.

Pre-order numbers are important actually. Not to the consumer but to the people making the product. I think they used blockbuster since it's probably the first (only?) place to allow pre-orders at the moment.  Strange that people would pre-order so soon though.

The biggest problem with your statement is that a console will not, within the foreseeable future, replace a computer. Nor will a tablet for that matter. Also, I seriously doubt that we will have hard core gaming TVs, as specs on those things would have to vary quite a bit, and the market isn't large enough. Besides it doesn't seem that advantageous.

The tv would not do the hardcore gaming so no need for hardware. Everything would be offloaded to a cloud infrastructure. Sony is saying they are testing cloud gaming of ps3 games on the ps4 for backwards compatibility. So if they can offload ps3 games over a cloud in a couple years anything could be possible. There are pro's and con's to a setup like this. But for someone like MS and SONY you drop the hardware profit loss, you can make all your money either running the cloud systems, Both have extensive libraries for titles, and ads. Its not ment to fully replace a PC because at this point int time you really cant. But in a couple more years it will be possible. IF you look at the pc licensing structure its already on its way to full cloud environments for enterprise class software. where most places are just using dumb terminals, and offloading everything to a datacenter or there own cloud based structure.

The main thing holding back is not everyone has fast enough connections to the web for this. But with LTE push going strong at 13mbit that puts most people in range.

just to further sony is thinking the same thing here is a funny patent from sony.

http://tech.fortune.cnn.com/2013/04/30/sony-patent-is-hilarious-terrifying/?iid=obnetwork

13 mbit over LTE? Lol no.

Think a direct >1gbps, low latency fibre connection, then we'll speaking.

preorder numbers are important just not from blockbuster IMO, typically they look at BIG stores like bestbuy or gamestop, or amazon etc. You know places go to buy consoles

Guess it depends how big of a reseller blockbuster is in the uk. I don't think they have bestbuy chains. Not sure there regular brick and mortar names.

Blockbuster almost went bust in the UK just a few months ago. I find the idea of using their preorder details quite laughable- I doubt I'd be able to find a single person who'd preorder a console there.

UKwise it'd be GAME who'd be most credible preorder wise as they're our biggest gaming chain.

Indeed, neither Bestbuy or Gamestop exist here, at least not to my knowledge. That said, I didn't know Blockbuster still existed here either. The two near me closed up certainly, and I'm in a pretty affluent area so you'd think if there was anywhere people were gonna flash some cash it'd be this place. Googling it though, there are indeed a couple of stores that can be reached, albeit one is a county over. A better source for figures would be somewhere like GAME - another store that had sell up shop here - or even the big supermarket retailers (Tesco, Sainsbury's Morrison's and so on). After that, yeah, Blockbuster might be the most reliable. The UK doesn't have the "shopping mall" culture of the US, many of us going in only if we have a specific purpose, so oddly enough the town centres have kinda died.

Lol, people are making so many posters now...

(click to show/hide)

That last line about kinect is both hilarious and scary at the same time.
For one thing, Tiff is not on any level what I would call a typical American.  She's not what I would consider a typical person.  I don't know any other genius geneticist anime-fan martial artist marksman model-level beauties, do you?

I think the kinect kinda looks like the head of the robot from short circuit myself.

Will be interesting if ps4 has DRM and used game things as well since they have not officially announced it either way and kept it pretty coy when they did mention it

I think design of kinect is a very bad one, because it is much bulkier than the tv itself. Did they have to make a brick like that?

Of course they had to. They have to stay true to their new design, i.e. rectangular/square shapes.

I knew nothing of the outside world. I was just a frog in a well.

Inb4 PS4 is an actual "Okama Gamesphere."

Indeed, it does.
