this makes for an interesting summary of what's happened. It's not the most accurate but it does it's job

Would be nice to stats by USA and the bigger EU markets that make over 60% of the market.

Here is another thing that is being talked about. How many units can Sony supply? Because there is a lot of speculation that Sony's dedication of releasing to everyone ASAP can cause a constant "sold out" state. Even Apple that has a great record of making a huge number of units before releases couldn't provide enough iPhones to meet demand.

So perhaps it is a reasonable strategy for MS to release in fewer markets, but saturate them with higher quantity. I can only speculate because none of us know the production capability of either Sony or MS.

By the way in Norway it gets sold. Someone mentioned before that there is low population, but a wealthy one. I can vouch for that, since the arguments on the local gaming forums are never ones like "PC is expensive and console is cheaper", instead it's always about the comfort of sitting in front of the sofa. That being said most gamers have gaming PC rigs next to a console or even several. So yeah, for example Skyrim sold few numbers for consoles because people play it on PC, but Assassin's creed games were mostly played on consoles. Hell many people here that own PS3, also own a 360.

So I really think that there are many possible reasons, but first batch of Xbone not selling over here is not one of them.

Well, I think Sony has (near) unreachable production capabilities. I don't think a console will saturate that, but global foundries is somewhat limited (that's where AMD fabs their chips afaik). Still I guess Sony is somewhat limiting the number of consoles for day one release as most retailers in europe already stopped accepting preorders with guaranteed day one delivery. Also since both MS and Sony are using AMD for this one it all depends on who got the better (earlier) contract for supply, since if one sells more, the other sells less.

As for apples case: don't forget that they swithced to their own fab and their own processor with the latest iphone, making it the first inhouse apple APU. As fabs are expensive normally you outsource the production.

AceHigh:
Only my speculation of course, but Sony should have stronger bonds with Asian factories making Sony hardware for many decades. Microsoft in comparison is the "new kid" as they are traditionally the software guys. Then again the heart of the console is still AMD, so it will be clear once they are released.

MS' next 180 might be swapping the water cooler with a water boiler.
(click to show/hide)To boil water at 180°C, so the only thing left is Steam.
