Anyway, I know they're just games, but I was recently playing Kanon, and having rejected taiyaki for the fifth or so time I felt kinda bad. Previously I was just skipping most of the early dialog because I'd seen both shows, but actually reading it made me feel like a bit of an ass/jerk/"meany".

More Western-y, I also feel like a bit of an ass when I play ME 1/2 non-Paragon characters. x.x

So, I thought I'd create a thread and see what other people thought in general, especially since an anime themed forum would probably have a higher concentration of VN players. :P

Feel free to share your experiences or thoughts (behind spoiler tags as necessary), but try to keep flaming to a minimum. I realize the "it's just a game" option is there, but I'm -pretty- sure most people know that already, so I see no need to get too up in arms about it.

-edit- I guess I stressed the VN aspect a bit too much. I meant games in general. The VN bit is just a recent example for me.

4 voters and no response? /#I'm the fourth#/ lurkers gonna lurk :P

Sometimes :: I usually -don't- go for negative choices in my first run. But when i've finished a route once. I'd like to see "what if I chose X" and hence if i see the characters sad or commiting suicide or something because of it. A child in me curiously says "So that's what happens, eh?" /#said child seems to be Canadian#/

EDIT: I forgot the topic is "whether i feel bad". well, I do, sometimes. depending on how attached i got to a character or how well made an established the character is.

i dont play vis novs but i enjoy fucking shit up intentionally in games like dragon age and playing them again just to change outcomes.

I really dont care about hurting feelings because its a fucking game and i want to see outcomes.

Not really visual novels...

But occasionally, I would try different choices, reset without saving, and see the outcome I like best. This is just for little things though., kinda like choosing weapon a or b.

As for story-changing choices, depends on my mood, lol.

I always feel great making the evil choices in Bioware games. Nothing is more satisfying... in GTA games are different because I always think what I would really feel if I did this in real life. I guess that's why I like expressing my eviler self in video games only to experience the feelings of my emotions. For example, killing zombies in Nazi zombies honestly gives me a "high". I get excited (not like that) when I reach endgame of 20+ rounds. I love pack a punching different guns (especially the D115 Disassembler and L115 Isolator and ESPECIALLY the Hades). Trying to get zombies lined up in a line to get 3 or 4 head shots or fatal shots with one bullet really is one of the best feelings in video games, for me at least.

Not really in fact I often enjoy playing games like Fable or Knights of the Old Republic were you can be good / bad and play through the story line seening what its like from both sides.

^Depending on your s/o, it's also a good way to end up single. XD

^^Heh, BioShock. I don't think I ever bothered finishing the harvest route in BioShock. The "good" route just struck me as being overall better for perks. As for little sisters as "lolis", I find the art style too gritty to find anything in that game "cute" by any means.

^^^Ichizon. That is all.

I usually feel like an idiot if I play a "good" character in games.
No issues with being evil.

So what's that idiot?

Because we can!

o_o okay... #changes vote#

previous point still stands, VN wise. however, in games in general. i like torturing NPC's. If you can abuse animals,
I make mincemeat of them. It's fun watching things suffer. however in real life i'd shy away from violence, unless
required. also, in non VN games where i should make choices, I always choose the more destructive path. It has
a rather therapeutic effect for me.

My problem with western RPG that have "moral choice" is that the evil choices are so pathetically evil, that you would have to be some kind of sociopath to make similar choices in real life. Actually reminds me of this.

However in games where the choices are not so extreme, I don't feel bad about doing "bad things" like for example punching a villager in Witcher 2 when he tried to cheat me in my reward for a job I did for him.
For one thing, Tiff is not on any level what I would call a typical American.  She's not what I would consider a typical person.  I don't know any other genius geneticist anime-fan martial artist marksman model-level beauties, do you?

First play through is always about taking the safe routes, and on the 2nd then you push its limits.

The only time that really comes to mind for me that I felt bad, REALLY bad, was in Fallout 3.

For those of you who don't know, there's this place called Little Lamplight in the game, a village of only children.  In that village is a little girl who is incredibly innocent and cute and nice.

I lured her out of the village, told her to put on an explosive collar, and sold her into slavery.

I restarted my game and killed the slaver instead, it was just TOO evil for me.

Lol well beside from crafting and zombies there is really not much in common with minecraft. It looks very promising on its own.

I usually make my decisions ingame as I would in real life, if its a game like Mass Effect then that'll be my first playthrough, and any subsequent playthroughs will have me being good/evil extremes to see how things turn out
