Very true, i used to store my battery in the fridge, wrapped in a bag in this fashion. Then the fridge malfunctioned, and defrosted itself, you guessed it, over the battery. The bag didnt save it from the deluge.

Thus, i ended up with a completely dead battery.

Also, have mine running enigma@home and leiden classical in a single core rather than both cores to help keep the temperature down, but still contributing

lol, putting a non-rechargeable battery on the freezer(yea the ones that turns stuff to ice) makes it go weee, seriously, i had my GBA batteries like that, when its almost out i`d put it on the freezer, a few hours later i`d be playing my GBA with the same (frozen)batteries for a couple of hours. the batteries lasted 4days.

I thought you were supposed to also wrap the battery in some type of towel or micro fibre cloth before putting it in the fridge? Not necessary, but is supposed to keep condensation more manageable when you remove the battery.

First, I know what folding is so dont tell me to google it. Second, I don't recommend uses a laptop for that.

I probably wouldn't reccomend it either, but it seems to work fine. I got multiple laptops folding away.

It's all about the points so the more machines you have folding for you the better.

Is it worth getting my old laptops to fold? Does it still add many points?

One of them is running a P4 and 2 others are on Core 2 Duo from 2006

Depends on the project you attach them to. I doubt theyd be useful in the world community grid. They might be useful to less intensive projects, such as enigma@home or Superlink.

I have an old IBM thinkpad (Pentium 3) crunching enigma@home. It takes 4 hours to do a work unit, so im sure your elder C2D would be faster than that

In my old apartment I get unlimited electricity so I fold 24/7 with E8400 and GTX260. Now with six cores and a GTX 570 I shutdown the machine when I'm not using it because I have to pay my own utility.

What about the newer laptops that have Intel i7 in it? Won't that be too hot for, let's say a full day of marathoning anime?

I'm thinking of getting a fairly powerful desktop-replacement laptop mainly for that purpose.

If the vent is made and placed correctly in the laptop there shouldn't be a problem.

if the laptop is poorly constructed, then yes, it`ll get really hot, 90+c. if not, you`d get under 75c.

laptops should be able to handle stress works over 24/7 so long as the way its built was decent.

For what otep want to use the laptop for it shouldn't even get over 45C, at least my laptop don't, even thought it is an i5.

From what I can make of it, it seems there are a couple of small vents in the front and side. You guys think that's okay enough?

I'm a little skeptical about it based on what I've read about HP laptops overall.

vents arent enough, if you could check under the hood then thats better.

make it run at 100% for a test drive before you pay, something like a try first. the point here is listen to the fan and place your hand on the exhaust, if the fan is so-so in loudness and the exhaust is letting out luke-warm air then thats a good thing but if its too loud and the exhaust is hotter than your coffee steam(typically 80-100c) then thats a bad thing.
