They should just make still suits like in the Dune series, so we can live off all our waste for weeks on end.

The main problem I had when I first saw it is that for most of my life, I've been told that human waste is bad for you.  It can kill you because it's all the things your body expels - ammonia etc.  You know, the same reason we don't use it for compost?

Then again, if it's processed correctly to take that bad stuff out and only keep the good things in it like the video says, it can't be too bad.  You know, like recycled water.

I guess if I'm given the opportunity to, I probably would as long as it doesn't kill me.

there is actually no good reason to not use human shit for composts. Shit doesn't contain the waste of all your body. It's just the remain of your food that you couldn't digest along with several digestion agents and a lot of bacteria. The "bad stuff" mainly goes in your pee (and a bit in your sweat).

AceHigh:
Actually it is illegal to use it as compost because it will stink the whole county if you do that. It's no big surprise that human shit stink way more than those of the farm animals.

I still remember the news article of a farmer who wanted to save a buck and used human waste on his field. The nearby town had to suffer the smell and he had to pay a huge fine, that shit was hilarious  ;D

Burkingam:
^I don't know about elsewhere but here in Quebec, a farmer would have nothing to win by using human shit as a fertilizer. Animal farms produce so much feces that they don't know what to do with it. When spreading manure you can only fertilize a soil to some extend. Too much nitrate on a soil will actually lower its fertility. Agronomists can calculate the optimized quantity, but, here at least, farmers are often payed to use more manure then necessary, just to get rid of it.

Back to the main subject, I could see such a technology being used some very specific contexts. Like maybe a way to make the astronauts food last longer. If we wanna go on mars this could be a useful source of protein. Also, if you can safely extract protein from shit, we could just use it to feed livestock.
