Watched the first episode again and it looks like the BETA make their landfall just north of India. Looks like they haven't touched anything outside of either Europe or Asia. Not sure why it is like that, but the USA will probably be invaded at some point lol

Nothing answered and some shitty drama, dropping this until it's complete, not gonna waste my time on something where they don't even try to explain what the fuck happened in the last years.
I also lold when he had problems with the TSF because it's oversensitive, well since he is an american it is also a pun made on the american people in this show I suppose. Americans are rough, rowdy and prideful people, Japanese are refined, agile and put a lot of focus on their traditional traits. Considering a trainee can easily ride that TSF and a "pro" American can't is exactly the stereotype going on around the world about the americans.
This really made me lol, also on the battlefield during the mock battle they had to cover him and defend him, this is exactly the same thing going on about Americans, if they can't control or handle their weapon or it breaks, they completely lose the will to fight. This was especially proved during the Vietnam Conflict, when USA soldiers were given the new M-16 sweet called by the American army as "Matell". Reason for that was because it broke easily, jammed and was unusable in jungle conditions, many soldiers were found dead laying next to their broken weapon, because american soldiers didn't know what to do. Unless they could get a new weapon or steal a weapon from enemy they would just drop where they stood and wait for their deaths.
The Lt. is correct about him, he may have talent riding an american machine, but he is completely useless otherwise, his american pride gets hurt so easily because he really is useless. That's one of the reasons for me to drop this until the series is complete, this guy has no will to improve himself, he will blame everything and everyone except himself for his lack of any ability to do anything outside of his military training. He blames the machine for being overly sensitive without realizing that it's him being too rough.
I hope he dies later on, cuz he's a totally useless ass.

I enjoyed the first two episodes, I was hoping they were going to set the tone for the rest of the series. The whole Japanese-American racial tension thing feels forced. There's a certain dissonance in how other cultures express discrimination from what the show has decided upon, and it comes off as smarmy. As in "these idiots will never understand the greatness which is being Japanese" as compared to "people believe stereotypes and hate people on baseless grounds of their 'race'". Myself coming from an ethnicity who has had historically a dim view of the Japanese, and having studied racial discrimination in American society during WW2, the vitriol I'd expect would be somewhat more intense than "those shiftless craven bastards".
It's an alternative world of course, but that can't forgive completely tone deafness, you'd have to explain the differing national outlooks at some point for that.
I like the inclusion of racism in a real-mecha anime, usually the NERV-type military organizations are utterly removed from historic or contemporary racial tension with the coming of the big evil. Although, usually there's some stereotypical subtext involved. Considering Japan was among the first peoples to lose their whole nation, a huge wave of impoverished Japanese refugees coming into first world countries all at once would certainly create conflict alien or no, particularly as they're still an Imperium with far weaker Western ties and attitudes. With some thought, you can create a realistic world in which people remain unfortunately the same regardless of existential threats and create dramatic interpersonal conflict between your characters.
I'll keep watching, I hope they kill more of the characters off, I'm happy being unattached from them.
As to explaining what happened in the time skip, the fact that the BETA have conquered the entirety of Eurasia and are continuing to expand would seem to cover most of it. I'd rather not see 4 years of her officer training, or space abominations slaughtering the majority of humanity.

That is not what I want to know as well, we can assume that for a while she was traumatized but from the first two episodes they showed a full scale invasion, so I want to know how in fuck's sake did only USA managed to fend off the aliens having THIS SHITTY pilots ?
Also only this "Top Gun" seems to be a racist. From the flashback we can assume it is caused by his childhood events honestly he has absolutely no respect to anyone other than himself, I hope he dies, and I hope it's a brutal death. The only one that seems strong enough to survive is the blonde and Lt. everyone else seems to be stuck up cuz they were chosen to this unit.
The Russian girls are fun so I hope they will survive long enough.
But I will wait till this is over cuz there is too much shit on the fan.

I don't think they've fended off anything, from the way they've displayed it, nothing is fending them off -- the BETA are simply slow and methodical in their swarming. The fact that their "ace" is completely green shows just how little Americans have had to fight as compared to those whose countries have been swarmed.
I think she's just as much a racist as him, he's simply more hung up about it.
