Is the story and single-player mode pretty awesome in BE3?

The fights are semi-tactical, you rarely get to use vehicles, and there is limited destruction. It all looks very pretty! The story is also forgettable (its been done in past games/movies/shows).

How do you guys like the new 1 GB patch? I hate how they reduced the SAM range ... Almost impossible to take down helicopters now.

They broke the game in so many ways. Javelins are now one hit kills on tanks and there is by far the most rubber banding in the world in this game. One second I'm running and the next is a guy 5 feet in front of me with M1911 killing me in one second.

I am *trying* to use the M240B, but hip firing is now MORE ACCURATE than aiming down the sights! (when you are prone and bipod deployed, it's obviously different)

I never viewed it as a clone. COD single player pretty much attempts to put the player in an over the top Hollywood war movie. While the BF3 campaign does have its cinematic moments, it feels more focused on making the player feel like he is actually in a war zone. It is far more tactical and procedure based. In the end though, I find both game's campaigns to be fun.

So how do you guys like the new patch? We can finally quite between rounds woot!

I haven't tried playing squad deathmatch yet but hopefully they have fixed the problem where you and your squad get put into different squads. It's so annoying. My friends and I will form a squad and then when we get into a game we are on separate squads.

I was hoping they would do something about weapons changing every time you switch factions. Nope. Every time I am the RU the AK is selected and I have to manually change it. So annoying.

My friend is pretty ticked off they removed the longest range scope for one of the guns he uses. I can't remember which gun it is but he said the gun is useless for him now and has been using it for months. It seemed like they removed scopes and various attachments for some of the weapons. I'm guessing this is all in the name of creating a level playing field. I get that there are certain setups that good players can dominate with but isn't the solution for the bad players to get better? Why punish good players because the bad ones whine?

Haven't played since the patch. But the removed scope is probably the 12x one and the weapons, probably the ones introduced with Back to Karkand. Tbh, it's pretty stupid to have a 12x on a HK53 or LMG...

And the thing you talked about weapon change, at the beginning I too thought it was some kind of bug. But that "bug" only appears with the standard weapons of each class.

Assault: AK74M, M16A3
If you played in one round as a Russian assault with AK74M equipped and in the next round you're US you automatically are equipped with the M16A3. But if you used the FAMAS as a Russian and then are a US you keep the FAMAS equipped.

Another question regarding the standard weapons. You can't "level" them in the other faction, can you? E.g. You want level unlock the gadgets of the AK74M while playing US.

I knew nothing of the outside world. I was just a frog in a well.

Yeah, I think so too but some people like to play that way. It really doesn't bother me though since 3.4x is the longest range scope I use anyway.

Yeah, I only notice it with the standard weapons. It doesn't switch if I use something I unlocked. It's still pretty annoying though since I use the M4A1 and it's always switching me to the AKS-74u.

I think you can. I'm pretty sure I have unlocked attachments for the M4A1 while playing as the RU. I haven't really been paying attention though since I use the HOLO sight and foregrip and have no intention of using anything else I unlock for it. I'll try to pay attention next time and let you know.

Hm, would be cool if anyone can confirm that. I try leveling the support's standard weapons but as far as I have observerd it doesn't work (or doesn't work anymore because I too was of the opinion that it worked).

Well, I went and checked and looks like you can't level up another faction's weapons. If you select another faction's weapon the progress bar goes down to zero. I played as the US using the AKS-74u and had about 25 kills but the weapon stayed at zero. Then when I was the RU, I selected it and it showed it had progress. I also checked the M4A1 and it showed no progress. I then switched to the US and the M4A1 showed progress but the AK didn't

So I guess it's a no. :-\

I also figured out why the weapons keep changing. You have to change the weapons for each faction. They each have separate configurations. I never noticed that.

I played some SP today (still haven't completed it yet) and it was pretty fun. Too bad there was no mission where you could be an actual pilot

One of the major flaws with this game is that there are no training missions for the vehicles. That is why you have so many people crashing jets and choppers all the time in MP.

There is a co-op mission where you get to fly a chopper though. Some people use this as practice.

So there is one portion of this patch that I am particularly liking, custom servers! You can now rent servers and set the game rules to your liking. Also, you can kick and I think even permanently ban players if they act like idiots. Finally, something can be done about all those people who stand around waiting for the jets to spawn. I haven't personally rented a server yet but I have been playing on a lot of rented servers and my overall enjoyment of the game has dramatically increased.

It's also nice because games can last much longer. So not only do you have more time to continue kicking ass but also more time to learn how to improve your game by working out new strategies when you are getting your ass kicked.

I was playing a conquest game the other day with 750 tokens. We were down by 100 tokens about halfway through the game and within our last 100, we managed to make a comeback and almost won. We only lost by like 6 tokens. It was nice to have time to work out a new strategy and actually have it make a difference. It was an epically long game though lol.

I don't know if it's because of my 3 week absence (since the patch), or that I have played only on servers with 32 players recently but the AA tank's rockets are pretty useless against any air unit, either they miss due to flare/chaff (well, nothing new) or they simply explode mid-air. I get the feeling all air units have it easier to get away from the rockets. Best chance with AA tank is to use the gatling...

Engi's repair tool: When I read the notes I was okay with the nerf but now... Can't repair AA tank in one go... stupid.

Tank vulnerability: When I read the notes, cool but now... Only two shots and boom? It sounds more realistic but I don't know...

General question: Do you get a lock-on warning from TV missiles? I was driving a tank and suddenly, boom... During killcam I saw a chopper killed me. Can't remember, though, whether the player was equipped with one. Which would lead me to the next question: Do the air-to-surface missiles of the chopper's gunner kill with one hit after the patch?

And last but not least, EA's greed for money... Kit DLC? At first, I thought, "Sure, why not? There has been enough time since release that many players should have at least like... a lot of the gadgets unlocked." But now, I think that almost every idiot was stupid enough to pay to unlock all kits (isn't unlocking all the gimmicks one of many motivations to play?) because every jet I encountered was equipped with the ECM jammer which takes some time to get.

I don't know but EA managed to make another franchise unattractive for me (after ME3)...

I hope this is not the case but because of my rather long absence.

I knew nothing of the outside world. I was just a frog in a well.

I don't have an answer to your questions newy, but I feel you on the whole DLC thing. To me, it is complete BS that players can purchase all the unlocks in one go. It entirely defeats the purpose of having to rank up through hard work. The only consolation I can give is that having awesome weapons and vehicle unlocks isn't going to make a bad player good. If anything, it will hinder their rate of improvement since they don't have the same incentive to improve gameplay to increase unlock rates.

I know I am going to get everything the old fashioned way by earning it.

Personally I don't have anything against a purchase option to unlock everything that a player can get unlocked in a normal way, since it doesn't empower those players over others. I would be against an option where you could use real money to buy something like some sniper rifle that would kill all vehicles in 2 shots and not have a bullet drop.

Also, hard work levelling? Hahahahaha, welcome to the world of empty server farming for vehicle unlocks/levels and TDM with 64 players on Kharg island people will spawn 1 metres in front of you at most times, just shoot somewhere and you will hit thus levelling your guns, chaotic as hell. Also the only thing left that was kind of fun in BF3 before I uninstalled it.

Important question is: did a release group upload an updated version of the Origin bypass yet? Probably not...

So, I halfway take back what I said about private servers being awesome.

There are a lot of servers who are banning specific weapon classes and even basic defense. Some servers completely ban shotguns and others who ban AA guns. So it is ok for the opposing team to spawn lock the other team by destroying aircraft before they can take off but if that team mans an AA gun to give themselves a fighting chance, they will either get kicked or banned from the server. What kind of complete bullshit is that?

Their are many servers that ban the use of the USAS, shotguns, AA guns, beam scanning with jets, heat seekers, semi-auto sniper rifles, and even certain assault rifles. It's like the admins are trying to create a situation in which they accel and the other team has no chance.

The EA terms of service for renting a Battlefield server clearly state that an admin may NOT ban any specific weapon or weapon type from their servers which would create an unfair balance in game-play to provide any one team with an advantage over another. I am very tempted to report these people.

I think I will probably be renting my own server soon. The only rules will be no team killing or griefing. Any means to take out the enemy will be allowed except for hacking or glitching. I will soon be looking for some people to add as admins who will enforce these strict but limited guidelines for my server. I currently have two friends on my short list.

i love and hate the patch. i love the fact that people cant spray and kill a whole group with the USAS with frag round. hate how they reduce them mag for the FAMAS to 25 and reduced damage and speed. but good patch really noticable
