Buffalo HD-LBU2
« on: June 22, 2011, 01:58:34 PM »
Bought this external HD from the local japan shop, since the drivers are not in english i went to the main site to download the drivers only to be met with a big fat fuck you.

Searched the torrent sites and internet only to be redirected to the main site, somebody said something about the serial number being on the barcode? The only barcode i found was on the package and that did nothing.

If you have the drivers for this model a pm is greatly appreciated.

All external USB drives normally follow the standard USB mass storage specification, and no driver should be necessary (it is included in the OS).
Or are you perhaps referring to their special Toolkit?
What happens if you just plug it in? (Could be that it simply requires formatting before use.)

The HD is working fine, almost forgot FAT32 was ancient and then converted it to NTFS, i witnessed on the other EX HD's that formatting instead of converting it to NTFS damages it's stability.
I simply want to install the drivers to activate the GUI interface.

It should be in human-readable format on a sticker (or engraved) directly on the device, possibly together with a barcode.
It may also be possible to retrieve the serial number by means of software while it's plugged in, but I don't know how to do this in Windows, sorry. Perhaps someone else in the forum has experience with this.

Was finally able to get a hold of my own damn EX HD dad being a bitch as usual, searched it to find a barcode under it which was different from the package so i think that is the serial number, but before that we now have another problem.

When i boot my computer with the Buffalo HD-LBU2 attached the computer is unable to reach the desktop and keeps restarting, dad said the same thing happens with USB sticks, how do i make the computer reach the desktop without the USB HD seizing it?

And how do i change a primary partition to a logical one in windows 7?

The idea is not to plug in mass storage USB devices during boot up.

Regarding logical partitions, a newly created partition is only assigned to a logical one when the physical disk partitioned using the MBT runs out of primary partitions. MBT holds a maximum of 3? primary partitions.
So basically, the 4th? partition you create on a physical hard disk will be a logical partition.

Gah i wanted to changed the external HD to logical to see if it would not seize the PC during boot up.

The serial number on the EX HD worked, went to Buffalo US to download the files, only for it to magically turn the drivers back to japanese. -_-

How does the computer crash when you have the usb drive plugged in? Does it let you type in your password, but then when it's logging you in, briefly flash an error message (something to do with access denied by local group policy or somesuch), and immediately reboot?

When i boot up my computer with the USB HD plugged in it doesn't let me reach the login screen im basically stuck restarting at BIOS until i unplug it, when your computer boots up you see the usual black screen analyzing data, the text on the black screen freezes when it's plugged in.

Your BIOS should have an option to set the order in which it uses devices to boot from.  Usually it is 1.CD drive  2.hard drive   3. USB    4. floppy.   Check that order and you probably have the USB option before the hard drive.   Change it so that it looks at the CD first, hard drive second, then the USB.

HD-LBU2:   I guess it is time to go to a store and look at the serial number on the outside of the box or on a demonstrator model if the serial is only on the product itself.

Just tried it, THIS DID NOT WORK! We even installed a Multi Boot loader at Boot up to force the computer to boot from internal HD, did not work. We almost pressed the reset button on the motherboard thank god i said no cause last time he did that with one of his own motherboards it flickered for quite awhile.

After poking some more stuff we eventually solved the problem, we disabled Legacy USB storage detect

After that IT BOOTED WITH THE EXTERNAL HD ATTACHED! Woohooo Baby CELEBRATIONS!

Oh and as for the drivers, most of them have magically turned into english after installation, no fking clue how that happened, sadly secure lock is still in japanese.
