Pale Moon aside, Firefox 3 is better than 5 for me... I am much comfortable with it since Firefox 5 has different placing of the Home and refresh button which confuses me sometimes since i have been using Firefox 3 for a while...

BTW, I hate the fact that bottom part (dunno what you call it) wherein you see the link of the one you hit with your mouse cursor and the loading of the page is in pop-up style in Firefox 5 which is always there in Firefox 3...
I know you are, but what am I?

@ichigoTAN

look at the difference, they're the same browser.

do you want to learn? i can teach you how to rearrange them =P

ps: i like the buttom part as it is, its clean, more screen view =P if i could turn the navigation toolbar into a pop-up too then that would be sweet.

The thing that annoyed me the most in FF5 was that they had that loading text in the bottom left. One of my addons always used that space to show it was running, had to disable that text for anything but highlighting links...

That was added in Fx4.

I skipped FF4 since it was only out for a short while (4 months?) before 5 came and I still like FF3 layout more (was going to switch soon and fix layout issues). Will have to see how add on programmers handle the 4 month new version deal. If they dare to set that it will work for all FF versions in the text. :p

Once again...... view that video. It has a mod that can make the bar like it was in the old FF.

I wonder what's happening at Mozilla... Are they trying to inflate firefox's version number so that it matches up with other browsers?

Soon you won't be able to see the version anymore.
The number will be removed from all public places with the comment that the only info as user you need to know is that you are using the newest version.

its still gonna be written on "about firefox" lawls, most program have their version written on it.

theres this creeping issue on my firefox that i have, when i load a new page it'll get stuck at the "transfering data" stage for a couple of seconds, sometimes reaches minutes, which is annoying.
IE or chrome loads the same page faster. pale moon has this issue as well.

Edit: FF 6.0 is out.

About the version number:
It's not something set in stone. Try to understand how open projects work please.

When a user opens the About window for Firefox, the window should say something like "Firefox checked for updates 20 minutes ago, you are running the latest release."

It is important to say when the last check happened and ideally to do the check when the dialog is launched so that time is very near and to drop the version and simply tell them they're on the latest or not.

If a user needs the full version information they can get it from about:support.

This will of course have L10n implications. Not sure what the right way to note that is so I've cc'd Axel :-)

Simplification and a different meaning for version numbers in a rapid release cycle are one thing, but help->about has been the place for the version number in pretty much every program with a menu for decades. This is where it belongs, where people look for it, and there is no real benefit to remove it. It's already deprioritized in the current dialog design. If the desire is to go further and only show a date, then the actual versioning scheme should just be changed to a date or a variation thereof as other projects with time based releases do. Nonetheless, the dialog labeled "About Firefox" needs to tell you explicitly about the installed Firefox, which necessarily includes its exact version.

No. The about window has always been the place for you to go and find the version of a program. It was already simplified with Firefox 4 to just show "Firefox 5.0.1" or whatever. I'd say at least 75% of users have no idea about the about: pages or that they even exist. I see no benefit from removing it, and only confusion and community rage from removing it. Even chrome has the full version in About, and they seem to be working just fine with no confusion.

author says its still gonna be in about:support, but sucks to have it taken out from help>about.

Edit: is that tiyler or a different person? lawl
