A Break From the Serious
« on: July 05, 2011, 03:25:16 PM »
Just to change gears for a day or so I thought I'd post a silly little poll. Obviously, if you read the poll before this post, you have no idea what I'm getting at. So, here's the situation.

We're all headed for the 20xx bakabt political debate. All your favorite personalities are going to be there - hell you might even be in the running for "Supreme Commander of the Baka Political Fleet". Anyway you look at it, it'll be a good time. Proin and Sem are finally going to duke it out on stage while Vic and Nikk take bets and jaybug talks about Oregon. All the wonders of Oregon.

Then, inexplicably, all the planes taking all of us to the debate crash and burn. We all survive, however our pilots do not. We find ourselves on a giant island, totally like Lost or whatever, and - for all intents and purposes - we're stuck here.

After a few days, it really sinks in. We have to form a government of our own - a style of living, so to speak - what do you think happens?

---

Personally, I'd like to think we'd go democratic. However, as soon as I saw someone else make a move for power, I would challenge them or support them depending on how I felt about them. Having posted here for what seems an eternity, I'm pretty sure we'd end up with a few guys battling it out like me, Ace, Sem, Proin, and Nikk, one of us would die (probably Sem), and then we'd probably go off in groups to be isolated.

Now, guys, I know we don't really do silly here often but this is our chance!

***EDIT*** While you're free to speculate on HOW we crashed, I like to think Pharismo saw the baka debate as a US government plot to murder innocent baby rhinos and planted explosive devices on all the planes. Just my theory.

we go democratic (yeah, right)

We vote a dictator, that is what I feel is the most likely and has the highest chance of success. Who that would be is a bit hard to define. Since I've never interacted with the members in RL I don't know body language and things like that.

qft-

Also, "I voted we're fucked." But given the scenario I think it might be more likely to break into groups and work together (Depending how many people are there in total, I guess.)

So I'm there?

My personality is as such that conflicts over leadership - or just generally - are something I'd like to avoid. The best way to get people to do what's required is show them what it is, and explain what they can do about it. All tasks can be broken down and distributed - building shelters, securing food and water, digging cesspits, exploring the island, and others which will become apparent - all are best achieved through co-operation. The more we're used to co-operation, and the more effective it is, the quicker the socialization of our diverse eclectic becomes. Proin and Sem can't stand one another? Ensure they're working on different projects at first, then you slowly integrate them through careful consideration of their work schedule - have the people who work around both of them slowly integrate to moderate their conflict over a longer period, with a common social group it's far harder to disintegrate over insignificant personality differences - and have them do simple and quick jobs together until their hostility is muted.

Common hardships bring can people together if they see it's in their interests, and I for one prefer to do less work and get more accomplished, and will accommodate for differences so long as it leads to some level of prosperity.

Whatever happens the society will be democratic, coercion is only a real effective means of control if you have the capacity to support your threats - which in this scenario seems unlikely. Leaders need some means of getting people to listen to them or the position is symbolic, and more importantly the leader needs to not get their head crushed with a stone as they sleep.

We'd make our own little groups. Think about it. Proin and Sem in the same group? Yeah right. Proin would strangle sem to a pulp if he dared say ridiculous things in real life. Same example took place in the religious thread.

SERIOUSLY? Those who can work and those who have ever been in Army, Navy etc. whatever and deemed "not useless" would be band A, likely lead by Ace (Fueled in rage for being separated from Morgia). Those of us wanting to live and being part of the "A-team" *snicker snicker* would take his cues. Those of high enough status would be Ace's Commander, Lieutenants etc.

Seriously. Everyone looks down on a dictator, but not all of them are moronic. See the Kapitan of Hotel Moscow from Black Lagoon to get a better idea of what this survival "politics" would be like. Obviously though, Ace isn't a scarred Russian woman.

The others would probably traipse around like a Lord of the Flies scenario, choosing leaders based on democratic bkbt recognition (like post count) and would eat fruits and veggies because animals would be too difficult to capture.

Ha! Awesome post Vic. You really know this part of the community well. I was laughing there... especially the part about Pharismo.

Wait, say what? One second.
* AceHigh stands up from his chair, walks 8 metres to the next room, gives Morgia a gentle kiss trying not to disturb her too much as she is in the middle of a roleplay

Ok, back.
Besides, I like meritocracy, so it's not status, but merits that would make people of a similar philosophy "band up". Besides, I think battle brothers sounds cooler as it implies that they are equal  :P

Well, yeah. Most of us want to survive. And while some of us can easily look beyond our own egos to allow someone else in charge, not all of us can. I still think Proin and Ace can easily look beyond differences and cooperate. While others debate as to whether or not fish antibiotics will cure our ailments should be cast aside and cuts and bruises should be sterilized of course, via use of home brewed alcoholics/moonshine supplied by mgz.

A few ground rules such as, "Thou shalt not be a 'tard with weapons even when thou hast been consuming alcoholics" are probably in order.

Given that my personal social and economic views are geared towards the term stability and survival of a country in the hundreds of millions and not the short term survival of a small, stranded group I would develop new policies.

Namely: we need a strong centralized leader, a dictator if you will, and everyone else would pretty much need to fall in line. I would not be that leader. I'd be number two or three or so in the hierarchy (ideally).

Semnae would die for being an idiot.

The linear nature of your Euclidean geometry both confounds and befuddles me.

The first thing that popped into my head when I read that line, is this guy:

Hell, economically it worked for Russia  ;D

So it's only the popular people of BakaBT on this plane? Good, now I can sit back at my computer and relax... watch some animes. You know... what normal BakaBTers do (not crash a plane on a remote island where I may or may not be eaten by someone for food).

BTW, for future reference... I taste bad. Ask the dog that tried to get my leg one time...

The first thing I would try to figure out is, who has the most practical experience surviving in a wilderness-type environment.  THAT would be the person I would back / try to help / try to learn from / follow around like a puppy.  In an immediate survival situation, meritocracy should rule supreme; after survival is assured, then the question of long-term government could be addressed.  Long-term, I'd probably prefer a democracy unless someone came up with a workable meritocracy.

I also think that the scenario would play out differently depending on whether or not it was an end-of-the-world situation.  If we were the last people on the planet, I think attitudes & policies would be different than if it was just, "We're stuck here, possibly forever, but maybe there's hope of rescue someday, and the rest of the world is continuing on without us."

Either way, though, if there was room & resources enough for people to split into separate groups, I think that would be inevitable.  Some people are bound to disagree with each other, and if there was room to go somewhere else, it would happen.  Geography has a huge impact on societal development and would most certainly shape the country of Bakabtikia.
It took an hour to write; I figured it'd take an hour to read.

Screw that, I still don't want to be on an island with all of you guys. No offense, but all that we would complain about is how we can't watch anime. Can this island by any chance be Okinawa? That way I can at least take a flight to Japan and eat a bunch of sushi, load up on anime related things, and go back home. Hell, I might even stay in Tokyo...

BUT, if I'm forced on to the island... I vote we eat Ace first... then fohfoh for pointing out that I had to be on said plane... then vicious796 for making this stupid plane ride that obviously was going to end up me not watching anime and eating Ace in the first place. The vicious cycle continues!

Presumably we'd be trying to get off the island, after being assured we don't die in the interim. I'm not spending my life with you people even in an theoretical discussion.

Furthermore, if there are any polar bears, floating malevolent clouds of evil, time travelling, or long drawn out flashbacks I'm just going to give the hell up.

Whatever bro, I at least know that half the people on this forum would go with me on this. So who wants a leg? I call non-masturbation bicep...  If both where used in such acts... I call one of the shoulder blades.

I like this thread now... Cannibalizing (literally) the forums is fun. :D

LMAO!!!!

So Vic, talk about your Virgina. Make a monologue of it. lol

I say we're fucked. Because I have no idea what you clowns would really do when the fecal material has impinged the oscillator. A so many here, I would not lift a finger for, because it was expected of me.

What I am going to do is have a clam bake. Then after stuffing myself, then think about what to do.

So Pharismo gets to play Piggy? Kewl!

BTW, I call parachutes. Not for jumping out of the plane... but to be used to wind surf my way back to civilization. If all the parachutes were burned and/or destroyed... you are just FORCING me on this island, aren't you?

I also said we are fucked/boned. First off, none of us are gonna get any (cause I know I don't get any sex... but I'm honest with myself) and the women on the forums probably don't want to get down with any of the guys (totally don't blame)... so I say we eat the hearts of all the youngest members first because they are the weakest. We shall then create the idea of a demi-god that grants immortality if we do it's bidding. If that doesn't work out, we gotta build a boat. Tom Hanks did it, why can't a bunch of anime nerds do it?
