So you don't like combat... but you like story or the atmosphere. If the player is just alone, there is only so much you can do for story elements or environmental feeling before you hit a wall in immersion. Adding in companions only adds to the story (which I'm assuming you care about more over combat, right?) and makes you attached to the game. The combat in HL was amazing and great, but it just felt like a really good shooter. HL2 on the other hand, was an amazing shooter game with an AMAZING storyline and atmosphere. The only problem I had with HL2 (over HL) was the lack of varied weapons (2 pistols, 1 shotgun, 1 smg, 2 specials, grenades) but more than made up for it with the Gravity Gun.

The issue wasn't combat... the issue was atmosphere and environmental immersion, right? How in the world did HL have a superior atmosphere over a game that nailed atmosphere perfectly (HL2)?

Never did state that I don't like combat, I just don't give a shit about it.

And really, you just don't seem to get it. I want the atmosphere to remain the same as it was in the previous installations of the game series.

The atmosphere is different, I do not like it. Bioshock 1 and 2 I loved for their atmosphere.

Let's just leave it at this, I am the type of person that does absolutely not like changes that change the feel of something that he absolutely loves and that all this silliness has been over tastes.

Yeah, same difference.

So you like games like Call of Duty style... the same game every single year for... so many years that I've lost count. It's good to have CHANGE in a sequel... or else why should I buy a new game when I have the old one that is exactly the same thing? I don't want to buy the same game over and over again because "it has the same feel." I want a similar game with similar mechanics but brand new features as well (Bioshock Infinite is one of those games). HL2 was a great example of how the sequel was better than the original (and it was better than HL). Other good examples: The Witcher and The Witcher 2, BF: Bad Company and BF: Bad Company 2, Halo and Halo 2, Uncharted and Uncharted 2, Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2.

Each of those games changed little things that they learned from the original to make the second one better. All in all, those game changes worked in the games favor. If they where just going to make Bioshock 3, I would definitely not be as interested as I am with Bioshock Infinite. Why? Cause they are changing some things in the game to warrant me to pay $60 to enjoy it (versus just playing the games that came before it). So you may like your games the same... but I'm not a square because I like new and refreshing ideas.

PS: Another big example... Fallout New Vegas is essentially Fallout 3, right? Wrong, the adding of factions, weapons modding, companions, different ammo types... ALL added to the Fallout experience and made the game better because of those additions. It's essentially the same game (you can play it without companions), but better (IMO).

Since you keep making annoying, incorrect assumptions, I'll just quit replying.

Incorrect assumptions?! I'm sorry, I speak only the truth. Please, I dare you to name one sequel that was BETTER than the original that did not change something in either features, gameplay, or the atmosphere (graphics obviously don't apply). Please... just one game and it's sequel. Having a hard time with it? Refer to:

Monotony
mo not o ny

1  : tedious sameness
2  : sameness of tone or sound

People don't like the same thing over and over again (yet this doesn't stop people from buying CoD every year sadly)... it kinda gets tiring and monotonous after awhile of playing the same game, doing the same things, seeing similar environments level after level. Remember that level in FEAR that had you walking down that hallway and the skeleton popped out of nowhere from the water? That scared you the first time, right? After the second time, it kinda becomes ordinary and not really "scary" anymore. I loved Bioshock 1&2, but I'm kinda sick of the dark rooms and overall dark atmosphere. Infinite is still Bioshock.... but just in a completely different location that CHANGES the atmosphere (which is a GOOD thing). If you think this is the wrong direction for the Bioshock franchise... well... go back to playing the first two games? There is plenty of gameplay in both of those games to satisfy your "sameness" of tone and isolation that you like in a game. Other people want a refreshing new game that still plays like Bioshock.

And in the end it ultimately comes down to two guys having different opinions. Oh wow, never seen that before.

Though I have to say that I too think Infinite is a great move from Irrational Games. I've played the first game for several hours and the second game for a few, and it might just be because I am late to the party, but I'm not finding them as good as other people do.
