True story.  I still talk to a lot of my buddies.  But it's different 'cause these are also the guys watching (or watched) your six.  I look at my buddies that never did time compared to my buddies that did or are still in, totally different mentality etc.  Short on cash?  Need a ride?  Hungry?  Girlfriend broke up with you?  They will get you laid that night.  Dragging ass?  They will motivate you.  Shit like that, they take care of their people.  And they are always down for beer pong, even on sundays, the night before a post run.  And now that I live like 15 minutes from Pendelton, where my brother is stationed at, been hanging around a lot of Marines.  Same story.  Meeting dudes for the first time and they're all trying to get me drunk.  Then you go out and do retarded shit.

I mean, there's some folks out there that are cool as shit but most best friends I have I met during my time in.

Maybe he should join?  Remember, it's not just a job, it's an adventure!  Haha... oh man

Sometimes I feel bad that I have only have 5 good friends. Now I read this thread and feel bad for ever thinking that :(

The friend scale goes like this:

Lv1 Mate = Person you hang out with from time to time
Lv2 Friend = Person you hang out with on a regular basis
Lv3 Good Friend = Person you hang out with and whom you take on camping trips and festivals
Lv4 Best Friend = Person you'd lend a 1000$ in cash without setting up an I.O.U.
Lv5 Very Best Friend = Person you'd take along to a bank robbery and invite to a threesome with...
Lv6 Girlfriend/Boyfriend = Figures.

Now the top level consists usually of one person, unless you got some sort of harem. The 2 levels below usually consist of very, very few people and normally people who you can stay in touch with after you graduated from school (facebook doesn't count). Levels 2 & 3 normally last only a few years, university days or such. Level 1 lasts a year at best.

On levels one to three you can usually just shit on them. Levels four to six take time to get to and they take care and trust, but when you're there it's the best thing that can happen.

Coincidentally, there is but one persone whom I truly consider a "best friend", I'd probably even would invite him to a bank robbery but the threesome is out of question here.  :P

I have 1 friend and I've never met him but I've known him long enough to not trust him if we were going to rob a bank. Does that count? Bastard would probably hand me in or take my share.
