My uTorrent settings for my 100mbit connection.
« on: July 19, 2011, 04:13:34 AM »
Hello guys, don't know if there already exists a bunch of threads about uTorrent setting, but i just had to share these settings since i just found out about them in a Swedish forum.

Now before i used these settings, my download speeds from Baka and torrentleech usually varied between 3-to like 5-6-7-8mbps and i was asking myself, why can't i come up to over 10 mb/s download speed?. So i began searching for it in google and voila, my downloadspeed right now, as im downloading Eureka Seven wich is over 30 gb, is constantly 11.6-7-8mb/s!!!! And man it wont take long at all to get this anime down.

But anyway, here are my settings:

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

And also you might want to go to Advanced in uTorrent settings and Mark "diskio.flush_files and set it to false.

ps. Don't know how well these settings are going to work on anyone else's Computer/connection, but for me they worked GREAT.

My settings are different:

Cache: 1280MB (higher settings make uT unstable, also that PC only has 2GB anyway)
All checkboxes checked except two - "Reduce memory usage when cache is not needed" and "Turn off read caching if upload is too slow".

I can manage about 10MB/s upload on this PC and ~7MB/s on another. I do not really care about download speed because when I download something it usually is downloaded very fast. Highest average download speed of a torrent (that I know of) is 14.2MB/s for Episode 2 of Pioneer One.

Theoretical connection speed - 300mbps up/down.

I use large caches to reduce the load on the hard drives, I would use even larger caches if uTorrent supported AWE (on 32bit systems) or at least x86_64 and large caches.

Despite my 100mbit connection i'm stuck at 300kbps, tweaking it according to this screenshot now.

well two questions, are you really using a 100mbit line? because if you're just using "right-click properties" on your connection then you'll be seeing your lan speed instead.
the other question is if its an "up to 100mbit" connection, my hunch is its on the ISP side, which usually is.

NTT Networks, we abandoned GOL ISP because it was too expensive? Then used Oceania instead, i think we made sure they didn't throttle our speed.

says 100 mbit, but 30~ UL means i'm on 256 Kbit. or so i think.

What is UL?

After tweaking the Disk Cache settings i've broken the 1Mbps barrier on a Bakatorrent for the first time, going to download a heavily seeded one to see if it will go higher.

a real 100mbit connection should get you 12.5MB/s download speeds at best.

PS: 8bits = 1byte

try http://www.speedtest.net/ to see what speeds you have.

Not looking pretty despite the technology here.

check your settings, specially driver/registry levels.

Which driver/registry settings are these?

Speedtest measures it in Mb/s, as opposed to MB/s - so judging by those results, it's only a 10mbit line, not 100mbit. I used to have 20Mbit internet, and speedtest gave me results of around 19Mb/s down, 0.75Mb/s up. So a 100mbit line should presumably be getting at least 90-95Mb/s in Speedtest.

@Meo: Have you tried Speedtest with several different servers? It might just be that one server being slow perhaps, if you actually have got a 100mbit line.

Sorry bob the other servers were even worse 1mbps i retested the same server after installing TCP optimizer then cranking the lever in general settings to max and it's only slightly higher than before.

Restarting my computer to see if that helps.

Edit: Boo didn't make much of a difference, it's like there's a speed cork hiding somewhere in my system.

do post the solution if you find one, i`m itching to boost my speed as well, i could only use about 800kbps worth even though i got a 2mbps line, though usually its at 1mbps... stupid ISP.

the only app that could saturate my line is flashget, getting like 200-300KB/s download speeds XD

200-300 KB/s on a 2mb/s line is pretty good. 2mb is only 256KB, after all. So that shows it's not any problem with your line; if you get slower speeds, you're probably either downloading from a slow server, or in the case of bittorrent, it's being throttled.

Incidentally, everyone should try and use the right notation. Kb is kilobits, KB is kilobytes. Same for Mb/MB, etc. It gets quite confusing trying to figure out which one people mean at times when they don't write it properly :P

the problem is only flashget could do that. Utorrent, firefox, etc. can only manage about 50-150KB/s

the thing about flashget is that its too aggressive(saturating every possible connection for a single file...), plus its a hit-and-run app(downloads and no upload).

Edit: my main speed tester is flashget on a big file =P if it does not reach at least 200KB/s download speeds then the ISP is acting shitty again.

My windows settings are fine, using windows 7 ultimate:

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

Here are my results when using speedtest:

Although it doesn't show, my upload speed is around 1.2 - 1.4mb/s
