BakaBT OpenSearch plugin for compatible browsers
« on: July 20, 2011, 01:58:20 AM »
I've noticed that for such an extensive database as BakaBT's, having to constantly load the front page every time you want to look for a torrent is a bit cumbersome each time you want to search for something different in a new tab. Since most modern browsers are compatible with the OpenSearch plugin format, I was thinking that I could cook up a quick plugin that could be linked via the front page or whatever so people with compatible browsers (most of them out there, actually) can search BakaBT's gigantic database directly from their search bars.

Would the admins or the community be against this in any way?

EDIT: I was bored, so went ahead with it anyway. The link points to an install page that's completely clean and only has code to install the search plugin (you can test this by viewing the source). Unfortunately for some reason Intercrap Exploiter is once again exploding on my ass with some strange "Invalid character" error, but eh, if you're still using IE in this day and age you need to get a bullet between your eyebrows anyway. >_>

No, it's quite alright, it provides a simple search that is already possible on bakabt when you're logged in.

That's the thing — I normally stay logged in here, but it gets cumbersome when I'm looking for many things at the same time on AniDB and I have to constantly keep opening the BBT home page to search for something. It's instead rather easier (and much faster!) to just Ctrl+T > Alt+D > Tab > [enter search terms] > Enter. =p

In Chrome/Chromium, r-click --> edit search engines --> Choose a name and keyword, put "http://bakabt.me/browse.php?q=%s" in the third box, and you have a new search keyword. Much more convenient.

In fact, it'll automatically detect searches you do and add them, so if you've searched on BBT before it's probably already in the list—you just need to edit the search keyword and label.

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/searchguide/en-en/default.mspx  (for IE)

just search any site with a search function for the keyword TEST and paste the URL there ... magic.

In Opera, right click the search box >> click "Create Search" >> add a keyword (example: b) >> Okay.
to use, type b [search term] in the adress bar or select the created search in the search bar.
